Hello all,

Not sure if you'd condider this gun an sns, but I have a .22 mag cap and ball revolver from north american arms that seems underpowered. It uses 4 grains of ffffg black powder or pyrodex(pistol grade), and a shot from it won't even penetrate a 1" thick board. This seems odd to me, given that the gun is supposed to have the power of a .22 mag and it is pretty much common knowledge that even a .22lr will penetrate a board. My question is, is this normal or should I use black powder (I've only used pyrodex in it so far) to get more velocity and penetration? It makes a nice cloud of smoke and is really neat to shoot, but in my opinion a little more "oomph" added to the round would enhance the shooting experience.

Thanks in advance for your replies,

I don't have one, But it sounds about normal to me. I have a Black Powder Deringer, .44 cal. Manual said to use 20 grains of FFFG black Powder. It will barely dent a 55 gal drum. haven't shot it into wood.
