Does any one conceal carry their G17 and if so what method of carry are you using ?

I recently decided to buy a Glock 9mm due to the fact they are very reliable and practice ammo is very cheep about two weeks ago I rented the 17 and 19 my grouping was much tighter with the 17 by far.

My new Glock will become a IPSC pistol when I become more comfortable with it, the only thing stopping me from buying the 17 over the 19 is the ability to carry it concealed and comfortably.

Almost forgot, I was considering IWB with the G17 :)

Thanks for the help

During the cooler months when I wear a jacket I use a Fobus GL2 paddle, during warmer months a Threat Solutions UCR with an undershirt.

I do occasionally. When I do it's in a Sparks Summer Special. Most of the time it's a G19 in either a Sparks Versa Max or Kramer IWB #3.;c

I www.smartcarry.com my G17. It's comfortable sitting or standing all day long. Can't say the same for my Hi-power though. The hammer tends to poke me when I sit. I'm thinking about a C-TAC for it.

It's looking like the G17 is going to be my next pistol over the G19

Not to mention I am always reading about issues with the G19 on the boards the G17 rarley comes up in conversations.

Oh, yes, for 15 years now.

I carry my fully-loaded G17 Mexican, and it is totally invisible on me. It is definitely not a quick-draw carry, but I have it with me 24/7.

The ammo is 17 rounds of Speer 115gr GDHP +p+ that does 1340 out of my G17. One spare mag with 16 rounds rides with me in a mini tool pouch.

Trijicon sights, bright orange muzzle cover, U.S. flag decals on both sides of the slide.

No one will ever false-accuse me of brandishing. The bright-orange muzzle cover is quite noticeable.

Problems? The front sight fell off twice before I got the trijicons. I have had two slide stop springs break, a connector spring break, ane a total slide crack at the front of the ejection port, right side. I also had to have a new barrel put in due to a small pit in the chamber. So, I have a 2nd Gen G17 with 3 different serial numbers (frame, slide, barrel).

This fine firearm will be on me when I die of old age!:)

Only about 50,000. BUT, alot of it was +p and +p+.

I am alot easier on it nowadays - +p+ for CCW only. WWB and mild 158gr LRN reloads.

Yes, indeed. And the pistol is totally safe. I have an improvised safety which is 100% foolproof. Patent pending.

I'll have a photo on this site when I get my patent.

The carry is deep, deep concealment, and if I ever have to use it I have two draw options. One is via the zipper ;P , and the other is out from an unbuttoned shirt.

My G17 is my only companion. Viva la G17!

If the thread is still going...... I have a G17, it is my off duty gun right now, and I carry IWB leather holster under a vest or shirt.

I did have a fanny pack that actually didn't look like a gun bag but the pressure on my back was wierd.

I have somewhere between 75k-100k rounds through the original barrel and still pulling tight groups.

I might end up making this my race gun as I am now able to compete some. Duty gun is a S&W 4006 that I HATE!!!!!!

Should be getting a new duty gun soon though. New agency ;)

Yep.
what's the problem with that? (if any)
Haven't shot myself in 18 years.

I just got a new G17 today and I have a new carry rig on the way.I'll post pics when it arrives.
Right now the only thing I have that fits it is a GL2 and a Smartcarry.
For you folks that prefer IWB carry,Tucker's "The Answer" is a superb holster!

Your kidding right???? a glock is not inherently safe when unholstered in the waistband with one in the pipe ie "mexican carry".

CCW my G17 everyday in a Galco Bellyband. What's nice about this one is that it has 2 holsters.I can be Glocking times 2(G19 & G17) if I wanted to.

Also have a Desantis Kydex IWB(no longer made) holster.Conceals great.Super-fast to draw!

Tucker seems to have the answer to everything except an affordable holster. ;f I've got a Fobus Paddle, an Uncle Mike's IWB, a Desantis Sky Cop on the way, and I'll probably order a C-TAC next week. When I get my permit I'm gonna try each one for a day and see if it's comfortable enough to be worn that long. Watch for my future holster threads. I'm sure I'll soon settle on something and be looking to unload the rest for cheap so somebody can pick up a few and see what works for them.

Sold the other holsters and kept the CTAC. Totally comfortable, excellent concealment. Definitely the way to go.

I am 46, about 5'10 and 195 lb with my share of love handles and I can conceal a Glock 17 well enough by wearing a XXL t-shirt ( usually dark blue or black, on top of an under shirt or another t-shirt ). I use a sidearmour IWB holster with 15 degree cant.

Yes, a 6-cavity Lee mould that yields a .356-inch LRN bullet with one lube groove. With straight wheelweights, the bullets weigh in at 157 grains

I drive it with 2.7 grains of Hodgdon TiteGroup and the velocity is a mild 800 FPS. This results in NO leading in the dreaded stock Glock barrel. Accuracy is 2 inches at 50 feet.

Yes, one can safely shoot lead in a stock G17! :)

It's looking like the G17 is going to be my next pistol over the G19

You could buy a 34 first, perfect for USPSA (IPSC), and still conceal it, and then a 19 (the perfect carry gun) ;f
I have owned and carried all the 9mm's, and now think that the 17 is a compromise and seems redundant.

What is reduntant to you is ideal for many. ;)

Agreed.
But what reason would one want a 17 instead of a 34 for sport shooting, or (apart from those with larger hands) a 17 instead of a 19 for carry?

Just from a recreational shooter vantage point, I am enjoying sqeezing out smaller and smaller groups when target shooting with the g17. I think it may have a slightly longer barrel than the g19 which enhances the sight picture, somewhat. It conceals well enough because the places I go that require increased magazine capacity do not require GQ attire.....Just kiddin' on that last part. I guess it ( g17 ) would also excel at cold-weather carry. Take care, Rob

p.s. I really don't think versatility is a compromise. YMMV

I use a CQC Serpa and wear it 4-5 o'clock position. I like the release on the holster. http://www.blackhawkindustries.com/product_detail.asp?product_id=4253&d=

There is an old adage about guns being best in the size and caliber in which they were initially developed, and I think that holds true with the G17. One of the previous posters mentioned the myriad problems that have been noted with G19s over the years, and he's right to say that the same things have not been said of the G17.

I don't know about sport shooting, but for defense (CCW and home defense), I think the G17 is a fine choice, and it has been my most enduring one over the years. I have strayed at times (to the G19 and to the Kahr P9), but the G17 is just the best handgun in the world IMO. I wouldn't want it any longer for carry (the muzzle just touches my car seat as I sit down now; any longer would force the gun upwards into my side). It gives me a place to put my little finger other than on the mag floorplate, unlike the G19, and it's got to be the most reliable member of the Glock family. It has a long enough barrel to produce nice velocities, but not so long that the bullets exceed their manufacturer's intended expansion envelope and overexpand.

For recreational shooting, I like to shoot my defensive guns.

I carry my G17 in a horsehide Kramer IWB #3 holster. (Edited-- I did initially say #2, but #3 is correct).

Good to see you're still with us, Ascaris! Haven't seen any postings from you in a while.

The biggest problem with the G19 was a result of using 2183 followers in Clintonized magazines. My G19 had consistent Last Round Nosedives when using this combination and flatnose or hollowpoint rounds. After tossing the cursed 2183s and installing 9mm4s, the G19 has had exactly zero LRNs.

However, my G17/G34 Clintonized mags had the same 2183 followers and yet I experienced no LRNs in either of those guns. (Still, I put 9mm4s in all my full-size Clintonized mags anyway--just to be sure!)

Yeah, I dropped off of the Glock Talk radar when my cat (13 years old at the time, all with me) was diagnosed with cancer. Suddenly, gun stuff did not seem so important any more. I like Glocks, but my pets are my family. (And to all who read this message, please remember that if the urge to say "it's only a cat" or something equally insensitive strikes you).

He was in chemo for almost ten months, and he thrived during that time (it's not like it is for humans on chemo by any means).

By the end of March 2005, he had not had chemo in a while, since his white cell count had dropped too low to allow that, and the lymphoma came back. Despite the best efforts of his oncologists, the cancer could not be controlled, and on the 2nd of April, he died relatively peacefully in our home.

I'm gradually returning to where I was, sort of, when he first got sick. Missing a big chunk of myself, though. I am trying to get back to my old activities, since the obsession with fighting the cancer is gone.

I understand completely! A few years ago, I lost Greystoke, my cat buddy of over 16 years to abcessed and failing kidneys. It was (and is) hard--he had a long life but we weren't done yet!

Greystoke's name was a sort of triple pun. First, he was a gray (or grey, as the British spell it) Tabby, one of a litter of four feral kittens born at the apartment complex where I lived. Second, I once found all four amid some foot-high rosemary bushes; three kittens curled up at the base of a bush and one gray kitten sleeping in his tiny "tree" like Tarzan, but only four inches off the ground! Third, the Tarzan character was the son of an English nobleman and would have inherited the title: Lord Greystoke. The name fit my cat all his life as he was both noble and athletic.

My current feline companion is named Freyja. after the Norse goddess of love, beauty, and war--and her name fits too.

get the 17 and a c-tac from Comp-tac. i was reluctant to carry anything bigger than my 23, until i slid a full size in my c-tac one day, and i can conceal them just as easy. i might trade in a few guns and get all full size. i'd also LOVE to conceal a 21 but couldn't afford to feed it and me.
