View Full Version : Hunting Dogs
So what kind of hunting dogs does everyone have? I have an ENglish Pointer and a Chesapeake Bay Retireiver. Two of the best dogs around in my opinion.
I now have a Lab pub and in the past I've own a Walker coonhound. Personally I think these 2 breeds are the best hunting dog for their respected area, ( water fowl & squirrel /coons/hogs )
Golden retriever. The stupidest dog in the world. Absolutely untrainable-one of those 75 pound lap-dogs. After two years of failed training, he got demoted to pet. It's prolly my fault. Next one will be a German Shorthair for uplands.
I love my chocolate lab (he is barely a year old), i also had a britney we put her down because of bone cancer she was a great bird dog.
Chocolate lab! She'll be 15 weeks this coming Tuesday.
Weimaraner for me! Hunt mainly upland game. Grouse, woodcock, and pheasant. My dog is just a machine out in the field. Nothing gets past him!
I have a Short Hair, love that dog, I have hunted him a couple times but hes a pet mainily know, he had a run in with some big fireworks on the 4th of July when he was younger, and well hes really gun shy now. He is a still a great dog and a good hunter. I run him once in awhile, so he can hunt, but never shoot anything over him , I just like to watch him work. We had a Brittany Spaniel too, he was well different, he hunted hard, but that dog just never seemed right in the head. Great dog and a great pet too, he was killed by a drunk driver, who hit the dog as my little brother was walking him down the side walk, almost him my brother. I have a pointer mix, she will never hunt, but she is birdie.
Love the pic's of the hunter's. USP cabela is gorgeous!!! here is one more of duke. I am ashamed i don't have any pic's of him in action. I need to take some soon.
I have a black lab- best all-around hunting dog out there. I had a German Shorthair but she bit my son, had to put her down. I won't get another GSP again. I am a labrador retiever man now.
I've had 5 labs over my life. All were excellent dogs and great hunters.
My current is a chocolate named Lena. She's awesome in every way.
Babe (Mom 12 years old) and Gage (her son 4)
Native pheasant Eastern Wa.
Gage and friends Shorthair....same day
To many to post...
me and my dad have 22 walkers, aint nothin' like 15 head on a big flop on a cold morning! then all goes silent after a shot or two!
I have a 12 month old yellow labrador retriever named Ollie. He has been through basic gun dog training and I'm working with him on transition stuff now.
I currently have 4 English Springer Spaniels (field bred). + One on the way.
Got a chocolate Lab pup, now 14/15 wks. old.
He sure likes retrieving 'stuffed/dummy ducks so far."
Brittany here. Jack has to be the easiest dog that I have ever trained.
I have a 6 year old Gordon Setter who is a pheasant hunting machine. I am picking up a new Gordo the first week of April.
Here's my 1 year old chessie.
I've got a two year old black lab named Sadie. She loves chasing quail as much as I do, and that's all we do for three months every year. I started her hunting at 5 months, and she's done great for me -- I don't believe you can start them too young if you do it right.
Good pet, too. The lab temperment really suits me. I don't think I'll ever own anything else.
That's my Drahthaar on point back in Jan.
Finally, I think this attachment might work. Here's a pic of my dog at the Big Air competition this past weekend at the Ft. Wayne Outdoor Travel show.
