Old trucks.

Ok here is a thread to get us going, who here likes old trucks? I am looking at a 63 and 69 chevy. And then there is this one 59 ford which is way less complete, but I could put a motor in it fairly easy.

The 63 is a 3/4 ton. Has a v-8 and a four on the floor. While it does have some rust issues, it is not as bad as some newer trucks I have seen. It has the typical ham fisted bondo fixes that now need rust repair. Only thing I dislike about it is the utility bed, but if fixed up it could be different.

The 69 has some rust issues as well. It has the typical rocker and floor rust. It has damaged and missing trim. It has later model bucket seats that are not all that stable, at least the driver's side. And the seat covers are t shirts. You heard me right, t shirts. But I like the body style, and it is also a 3/4 ton with an extra long bed.

The 59 is a total project, no drive train. If it were a 56 I would be all over it even with the missing drive train. It does have some potential. Especially If I were to redneck it or rat rod it.

My first truck was a `46 IH 2wd that was a rod project that never got finished.
I then bought my Grandpa's `66 F100 Custom Cab 2wd with a 352V8 and 4spd, 70k original miles for $100.
I was made into a mild custom and driven from Idaho to California and all over the Northwest.
I trailered it to Iowa in `93 and eventually sold it for $800 with a cracked block and in pieces, awaiting a resto. I'd love to find it someday and buy it back;1
I now have a `73 Dodge W200 crewcab that is sitting in the garage waiting for some attention this Spring.
I tried to sell it on Ebay, but the most I was offered was $1600. Not enough for such a rare old truck.

I knew I could count on you. Your truck is certainly interesting. Dodges of those years are real orphan trucks. Not anywhere near as much out there as on the chevy trucks of similar vintage. To a lesser extent the fords have alot of stuff. I had a chance at a 69 or so dodge awhile back, but passed it up partly out of budget, partly out of concern for finding parts.

vart, old FD truck! Those can be a great find. Many times they are well maintained, low mileage, and heavy duty. Unfortunately, it is tough to get them while they are still in great shape unless you are related to the FD in some way. How did you get that one?

I bought it at a government auction through the GSA. It was originally an Air Force truck.

Here's my 1968 Chevy. This was originally my Grandfather's. He bought it new in 1968.

If you want something a little different find yourself an older Dodge. Or maybe an early Ford like a '57 to a maybe a '73.
I perfer the early Chevys but an early Ford or Dodge done up right would make a really nice truck.
