View Full Version : IDF guns
I'm just back from some reserve army duty, and have a few pics to prove it. Filtering out all the indecent and irrelevant stuff, here are two nice pics:
1) My morning shave. An M-109 in the background. That's a G19 in a Safariland 6280 (awesome general purpose duty holster) on my left hip and a Galil SAR on the driver's hatch.

2) A close up of the small arms and Lior's boot. That's a G19 and a Galil SAR, which IMO is the sexiest AK-47 based rifle.

It must suck to live in a battlezone with no hope of an end to the hatred your enemy has for you.
You and your fellow countrymen have my respect and best wishes.

Hey Lior I agree about the Galil. Here is a pic of mine. I thought you guys didnt use those anymore. I love mine. BTW I would love to see more pics of Israeli weaponry if you have any. And stay safe!

Turrican, interesting build you have there. Was this Galil off the shelf or especially constructed?
Butt stock seems to be of the Vektor R4 type, whereas it has an original IMI handguard with the first model handguard grip (newer ones don't have carrying handle brackets). I'm not surprised that the gun didn't come with tritium sights, and few Galils still have them anyway. Nice semiauto receiver.

Actualy it is all IMI except for the receiver and the trigger guard. Also the fire control group and the piston are US made bu you cant see those in the picture. I bought one of the IDF slings that aare supposed to work so great but I cant figure it out. Maybe if I sent you a picture of me you can tell me how it is supposed to work. It is the kind with the metal hooks that is supposed to go from carry position to business position quickly. They have problems witht the importation of the tritium sights. I have some new ones now but I need all of the springs and pins to get them installed.
Ben Paz, the owner of Glockmeister was a long time IDF guy said he hated woking with his Galil when he saw mine it brought back memories for him. He said it was too heavy to carry around all night and he was happy when he go an M16.
There are two things about combat slings worth remembering:
1. They must be long - say 5' or so. With the sling around your neck, the gun should dangle at about pubic bone height (4" below your navel).
2. One does not hook the sling directly to the gun - a stout pair of thin para-cords is used for this - so if there is any tangling, the slack of the cords will take it up rather than bending the hooks. Caution should be exercised not to obstruct the front sight. In my pic I threaded the rear cord through the rear swivel, but some guys prefer using the upper back corner of the stock for attaching a sling.
Standard carry position is cross slung - if you're a righty your gun hangs on your right side with the sling over your left shoulder. Action position involves getting your right upper limb through the screen with your gun dangling around your neck.
