Just a quick question. Why are there not many 357 sig shooters in IPSC and the like? Is it because of Power Factor? If so or not, someone please explain. Thanks guys.;c

Because cheap ammo is a pain in the ass to find.

And no increase in capacity over .40.

I shoot my G31 w/ S&B ammo different times in IPSC/USPSA. It does give a snap in the recoil dept., I shoot it when I don't have any 9mm or 40s&w laying around (had a bunch of 357 sig ammo). The last match I shot w/ it, we had a stage that had a really low tunnel to shoot from. It was the last array of targets and I went in full charge. The 1st round about knocked me out w/ the blast kicking back at me. I had to shoot 6 rounds through that tunnel and afterwards I had to sit there for a minute before getting up. Felt like I had been punched in the face. Learned something from that one, stay a little further from the tunnel if at all possible.

I like shooting the 357Sig, it lets me know that I'm shooting something.

Ilikeglocks,

I used to compete with it in USPSA Production and IDPA SSP. Simply stated it wasn’t a practical cartridge to use in competition since it requires special handling when reloading. Basically you have to lube the cases and then de lube them once reloaded that something that neither the 40 S&W nor 9x 19 cartridges require to have done.

Due to the bullet diameter/size it won’t make major in Limited (40 cal/10mm minimum) and while you will make major in the Open division you won’t get the same magazine capacity as a firearm configured in 9x19 major.

For some of the above reasons and the once shot brass is considerably more expensive than similar 9 or 40 brass. Just tears up my Yankee heart if I can't pick it all up after shooting a stage.

The only folks I know who shoot 357 Sig are LEO's using duty guns. For all there reasons mentioned. Expensive to shoot and a pain to reload.

I do sometimes. Before it was due to me not having any other guns to play with, and now it's to practice a bit with my carry gun.
