I was listening to a lot of the old radio this weekend and they played some stuff I haven't heard in ages. What are your favorite old/obscure songs that everyone knows, but nobody really remembers?

"Mmm mmm mmm mmm" -The Crash Test Dummies

"Standing Outside a Broken Phonebooth with Money in my Hand" -Primitive Radio Gods

"Gangsta's Paradise" -Coolio

These are the songs I LOVE! Especially the cool alternative stuff from the 90s before Clear Channel bought every station and homogenized radio.

Abra Moore - Four Leaf Clover (This was a great disc.)
BuffaloTom - Summer (Fell off the earth.)
Cornershop - Brimful Of Asha (Fatboy Slim remixed this song too.)
Dada - Dizz Knee Land (I just robbed a grocery store, I'm going to...)
Finlay Quaye - Sunday Shining (Bob Marley-borrowed lyrics)
Flys - Got You Where I Want You (Katie Holmes was in the video!)
For Squirrels - The Mighty KC (About Kurt Cobain killing himself.)
Fun Loving Criminals - Scooby Snacks (Maybe too obscure...)
G Love & Special Sauce - Cold Beverage (Feelin' kinda thirsty!)
Jayhawks - Waiting For The Sun (Early alt-country)
Jennifer Trynin - Better Than Nothing (Girl sings about drinking and fighting, cool!)
Milla - The Gentleman Who Fell (Yes, the model/actress from Resident Evil sings!)
Nada Surf - Popular (I hear this all the time on Sirius.)
Naked - Mann's Chinese (These guys had a 2nd single too, a lot softer.)
Nixons - Sister (Other single was called Baton Rouge)
Oleander - I Walk Alone (Really great album)
Pavement - Cut Your Hair (See: Nada Surf)
Powderfinger - My Happiness (Disappeared!)
Rentals - Friends Of P (Weezer bassist side-project.)
Rusted Root - Send Me On My Way (Shoulda been these guys instead of DMB.)
Screaming Trees - Nearly Lost You (Just great 90s alternative.)
Seven Mary Three - Lucky (Lots of other songs.)
Son Volt - Drown (Jay Farrar of Uncle Tuppelo fame)
Spacehog - In The Meantime (This dude is married to some popular actress now.)
Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike (Pearl Jam + Soundgarden)
The Sheila Divine - Hum (Who? Heh heh.)
The Urge - Jump Right In (Only song on the album that wasn't screamed.)
Toadies - Possum Kingdom (Toadies + Rev Horton Heat = Burden Brothers)
Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag (I got 2 tix to Iron Maiden, baby!)

Carolina Hard-core ecstasy by Zappa, it has the most killer guitar solo jam to close the song out

I saw Genesis perform that live at the Manhattan Academy of Music in 1973.

Nada Surf - Popular (I hear this all the time on Sirius.) Man I had that cd waaay back in the day. The rest of those are really good ones too! I should probably invest in Sirius (I don't really like XM) just for that reason.

Seven Mary Three were good- are they still around?

I was also thinking the other day about Toad the Wet Sprocket and Silverchair... two bands that were really pretty creative in the early '90's but got washed away somewhere...

I used to like 311, back when they were a ROCK band, and not a reggae band lol.

I'm liking this thread... we need some more people to chime in though to make this fun!

The Boulevard song on the Suzuki commercial is pretty obscure I think. I've asked all over for a year and no one has known it.

Whiskeytown - Jacksonville
Whiskeytown - Excuse me....(great beer drinkin' song)
Jay Farrer - Sebastopol Album
Varnaline - I still dream
Jimmy Lafave - Walk Away Renee (best remake ever)

I'm not sure the name, but the edited version goes something like..

There goes Johnny
he's a one ball man
With his pecker in his hand
and he's off to the rodeo

F---in Jerk
Pi--ed me off

;z ;z ;z

Wish I could think of the name though!

Edited to Add: Stuff from Stephen Lynch is good and unknown. Offensive too! BONUS!
