Guess there aren't too many Beretta lovers here.

Anyway, I traded my Springfield Armory 1911 GI in on a Stainless 92FS this afternoon. Not that I didn't love the 1911, but I decided that when I'm ready to get another one I'm going to buy top-of-the-line instead of spending more to make it the way I want it to be.

I haven't fired it yet, but the Beretta looks and handles beautifully. I can't wait to get some range time in.

A couple of questions: Any known problems with the plastic guide rod?

Where's the best place to buy 15rd mags?

This area was just created today. That is why there is so few areas. It took a lot of Beretta owners a while tos ign up enough names to get this area. For some reason, a lot of Glock fans hate Berettas, and vice versa (a guy at work is always giving me hell for prefering Berettas to Glocks).

My older 92FS has a metal guide rod, but my new Vertec has a plastic one. Some people on the Beretta talk forum have changed some of the plastic parts that Beretta seems to have switched too. But, I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of manufacturers use plastic guiderods. If you end up with some abnormal wear, then I would switch. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

I read an article geared towards the military in Irag - to help make the M9 handguns more sandproof. It recommended taping up the holes in the mags, and also using the plastic guiderod. Apparently, the grooves work better to let the sand leak back out.

Bear Arms at Scottsdale Rd and Shea in Scottsdale is a great place to buy anything you need for shooting. Ask for Darryl or Hector. I got my 92FS there (used) and they had a box full of used and new 15 round mags at a great price. Good deals on all new and used guns and they are good guys.

Thanks for the replies, both of you.

Bear Arms is a good store with a great selection, but I think most of their new stuff is a tad overpriced.

I'll definitely check it out for the magazines, though.

I agree that the new stuff can be a bit high. I have special ordered stuff not in stock and found their pricing pretty good. I like the selection of used pistols and rifles.. I just bought a used Beretta Tomcat in .32 that I love for pocket carry. You never know what you will find when you go in!

Well I just received some PB 15 rounders from Botach Tactical for $26. And to make it worse, I just ordered some MDS 15 rounders from Cal's for $17.

If you are not aware MDS is owned by Beretta and makes their mags.

Black Finish like new with box and all papers including unused warranty card for $225. Best new price I have seen is around $315 from Gallery of Guns. The Tom Cat is well made and does well within its size limitations. I carry it as a backup to the G19, G26, G36 or Beretta 92FS or when it is the only thing I can fit in the wardrobe!

I also have a 92FS Inox. I love it! It is my CHL carry weapon. It is the most accurate of all the guns I have.

I thought about getting the new Steel version. But, unfortunately it has the Vertec handle. And, it seems a little too shiney for me with that nickle polished finish it has...

Got it out to the range yesterday with 200 rounds of Winchester white box.

The 92FS performed flawlessly and was surprisingly accurate. I'm used to firing .45's at the range and the Beretta was a pleasant departure from that caliber. After a few magazines I was firing this almost as well as my .45 USP, the gun that I am most proficient with. All in all I am very, very impressed with the 92.

Heh, my USP better look out...The Beretta already has the edge on aesthetics, if I get too good at shooting it it might just become my favorite pistol.

My department issues the 92 FS stainless and we have not had any issues with the plastic guide rod to date.

We had the steel guide rod in our older weapons and all of the 92s that I have owned in the past have had the steel versions. I can't tell any difference in the pistols on the firing line.

Enjoy your new Beretta.
