Hi guys!

New club for Beretta, very cool!

Ok, my local gunshop has a used Beretta 92fs. It looks like 98% and well kept. I think it has adjustable Millett rear sight, and threaded barrel (legal here). The slide action feels glass smooth, and despite that people usually say that it's a big pistol and fits only people with large hands, it fits my small mitts.

So, what are the things I could check before I buy it to see if it's OK?
Like a checklist?
Possible fractures, peening marks, rattles, fit, etc ...

Couple more questions:

- are Mec-Gar mags good?
- is Hogue fingergrooved rubber grip good? (I'm thinking of buying it later if I buy the gun)

Help me out

Parts to check on a used 92FS: the cutout on the slide for the locking block (the thinnest portion of the slide when viewed from the top); the locking block (you want the new style with the "neck", for lack of better term); the manual safety (make sure it stays off and on safe snugly and won't activate involuntarily during recoil; the trigger spring; and the trigger bar spring.

Good news: Beretta springs from Wolff are excellent. Consider the INS trigger conversion unit. www.gunsprings.com

Mec-Gars are the only aftermarket Beretta mags I'd trust for the Beretta. They make 17-rounders (flush-fitting) mags. They even have 20-rounders whee I come from.

Hogues are okay. But the thinnest grips are the plactic ones Beretta uses.

Good luck!

Also make sure you have a quality holster for it, such as the Comp-tac Gurkha I have for sale.

Alexii: What's a INS trigger conversion unit? Do you have one and if so, what's your impression of it?

It's essentially a Robar-finished cam with a spring that replaces the fragile stock trigger spring in a 92FS. It was called INS after the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the department that supposedly requested for a more durable trigger system.

It comes in three weights-- light, stock, and heavy. My unit is stock and I haven't really noticed any quantifiable difference from the stock spring. It does seem more durable though. The big difference in trigger pull came from switching to the D-hammer spring, which costs around 5 bucks.
