View Full Version : Where can I buy OEM mags 13rnd mags for 92F COMPACT
My daughter's graduating from the United States Air Force Academy in June, and my Dad is giving her his unfired 92F Compact. He has three 13-rnd magazines and I'd like to find 2 more for her - at a reasonable price. Any ideas?
Mec-Gar mags would be good, too (if they make a 13-rnd 92F-C mag).
Thanks
First of all...congrats to your daughter...the future Lt. What will her AFSC (AF speciality code) be?
I carry a spare 15 round Mec Gar mag instead of another 13 round 92FC mag for my Compact.
Midway USA (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=249932) has an inventory reduction sale currently on the 13 round mags.
A good source for full size Beretta mags made by Mec Gar is Arizona Gunrunners. (http://www.arizonagunrunners.net/Products/mecgar/mecgar.html)
You can also contact Beretta Forum member Bradley Taylor at pb14tx@stx.rr.com . Brad can sell you those mags and uncommon Berettas (like the Vertec 92G or 92D Centurion with a mag disconnect safety that he sold me). Tell him Beretta Forum member SRFL sent you if you go to him.
Hope this helps.

Holy cow! What an outstanding (and unexpected) response! I've been searching for these magazines for more than TWO YEARS now - ever since my Dad mentioned his intended graduation gift.
I'm not sure what my daughter's specialty code will be, but she's going into Security Forces. My Dad is a former FBI agent (among other things) and he influenced her a lot during her formative years. She wanted to join the FBI or CIA, but became involved in Air Force JrROTC in highschool. So I suppose she's moving in her intended direction, within her existing parameters. A good patriotic kid.
The 15rnd Mec-Gar that you carry as a reload/backup - is it made specifically for the 92F-COMPACT (ie. shorter than a standard 92 mag), or are you simply using a standard, full-size 92F magazine and letting the extra length "hang out"? Will the 92F-C accept an *unmodified* 92F 15rnd mag?
I know Mec-Gar mags are considered the most reliable aftermarket magazines for Beretta, so I'd be happy to buy her Mec-Gars if they'll provide two extra rounds each.
Many thanks for the commercial links, and for the contact information for Bradley Taylor. I appreciate you letting me "drop your name" in the process. I'll investigate all three options later this week.
Life's full o' surprises:
I've been shooting my 92F pretty much exclusively for more than a decade. My wife wanted a "Glock with a Laser" and decided on a G17 - which turned out to be a bit LARGE for her to conceal... So we bought her a G19 (with a laser!) and I ended up with the G17. I like the consistant trigger a lot better than my Beretta's looooong SA first shot, and somehow those two Glocks got together and had twins! A pair of little G26s! The irony is, now that I've "discovered certain Glock benefits" I'm finally receiving much appreciated and long-sought Beretta information...from a GlockTalk forum. Who knows?
Thank you

Thank you
I'm glad I can be of help to the father of a (soon to be) fellow AF officer....and thank you for the compliment.
With the death of the Fed AWB, the Compact mags are now available again, but not as plentiful as the 15 round Beretta mags.
The Mec Gar mag I was referring and use as my reload is a full-size 15 round mag....I'm not sure there are extra capacity (more than 13 rounds) Compact mags. Mec Gar also has their 17 round mags that fit flush with the full-size 92's. I purchased two of them a month ago but I haven't shot much with them. Their 20 round mag is very reliable. My 92F Compact works well with the 15 and 20 round Mec Gars....I need to test the 17 round mags with that gun.
Brad is a good guy.....he's sold me 4 Berettas so far and about 7 x 92D mags specially made for mag disconnect safety-equipped 92D's....these guns (and mags) are rare; I still got them very reasonably from him. Brad is considered a near "god" over at the Beretta Forum.
Good luck on the mag hunt....take care!
...forgot to add that Beretta vets here and/or the folks over at the Beretta Forum might know of other sources of Beretta OEM compact mags.

Yeah, I figured you might be an Air Force officer yourself based on your previous comments. In light of that, may I pose a question which you may or may not be able to answer..?
My daughter came home for spring break and we went to the range to further familiarize her with the 92F. Due to a SNAFU at USAFA, she hadn't received her official training yet on the M9 (and probably still hasn't). I realize her hands are a lot different from mine, but I was surprised to see how much trouble she had with the long double-action first shot. I had her try setting the hammer to half-cocked, but pulling through on the first shot was still a problem (no problems with the excellent, crisp double-action follow-up trigger).
She's very tough minded, and even more so when it comes to shooting handguns - she's never shown any fear of recoil (though my Dad did have to break her bad habit of shutting her eyes when shooting skeet ;f). So I'm pretty sure this 92F problem is a simple physical/structural issue resulting in a mis-match between her hand and the 92's grip/trigger geometry.
THE QUESTION: Is there any chance that Air Force Security Forces will let her carry some sidearm *other than* the M9? I'm assuming they'll issue her a sidearm, and I can imagine the headaches involved in maintaining a "variety" of issued weaponry...
Too bad the M9 can't be "cocked & locked" like a 1911.
Also, can you provide me with the web address for the Beretta forum you mentioned?
Many thanks for your time and interest in this matter.

That's a good question.....I'm not sure that she can be issued a handgun other than the M9 (any CATM and/or Security Forces personnel around to answer that one?). Maybe the M11 (Sig Sauer P228 9mm)? The P228 was my first LE duty gun....I preferred the feel of my 92FC in my hands over that of the P228.....the P228 is an outstanding weapon though.
Back in my cadet days, my first USAF qualification ever was with a S&W .38 Spl (I think it was the Model 15)....maybe those are still around?
Have your daughter look at AF Instruction (AFI) 31-207 (Arming And Use of Force by Air Force Personnel), AF Policy Directive (ADPD) 31-2 (Law Enforcement) and locally generated directives, addenda and/or attachments to the AFI's and AFPD's (all USAF bases will have locally generated guidance specific to the needs of that base, wing, group, etc.).
Here's the address of the Beretta Forum. (http://www.berettaforum.net/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi) I know there are at least two USAF CATM personnel that are Beretta Forum members....they might be able to answer your question, above if no one here can.
My Beretta Forum username is also SRFL. You can get a hold of Brad Taylor there too....his username is PB14TX.
Take care and good luck!

I forwarded your comments to our "General Nuisance" at USAFA. She REALLY appreciated it. Y'know, "Old Dad" always provides good, solid, logical advice - but he is "just a civilian"... ;g The specifics you added really meant something to her!
She's finding little opportunity to talk to whomever it is that might be able to answer this question at USAFA, and she's absolutely THRILLED that you suggested specific regs and other means that she can pursue herself.
Thanks VERY much for the information and advice.
Anytime!
Hope the info helps.
Regards.
