View Full Version : Warped
Just got a P99 and haven't shot it yet.....look at the pics....does there seem to be a warping affect where the rail and slide meet? I don't know for sure.....
Mine doesn't look like that.
It does appear that the plastic frame may be warped or molded incorrectly. Go to www.waltheramerica.com and find the Customer Service phone number. Call them about the problem and let them know you can email them some photos, or direct them to this thread. They will probably send you a prepaid shipping label for you to send the pistol back to them. Let us know what happens.
I was told to call Smith & Wesson....S&W got my address and is sending me a shipping label.....we'll see what happens.....
thanks all....

I have a p22, and from what I've read, S&W is great about fixing anything. Good luck.

I wonder if the person who said theirs doesn't look like that has an '04 model. Mine looks like that, and so did the other 3 that I had to choose from at my local gun store. I figured the odds that one shop would end up with 4 bad ones were pretty small.
Mine was bought NIB about a month ago.
Smith and Wesson still has it....been around 2 weeks so far....
I'm glad you beat me to that one.
Got the gun back today.....actually they sent me a brand new gun, case, mags, and fired bullet....my hands off to S&W/Walther....this is great service.....
You know, it is service like this that for sure, my next gun will be S&W/Walther....
Brand new pistol? Cool! I've always heard that S&W had a good customer service department. So I guess there must have been a defect.
Is the serial number of your new pistol different from the one you sent in? If so, did you have to go through a dealer to receive it? Or maybe they destroyed your original pistol and reissued the new one with the same serial number?
Brand spanking new gun, case, mags....has complete different serial number....it was shipped FedX directly to my home....now I have extra mags and gun case.....

;P ;P ;P ;G ;G wow... ;W ;W ;W S&W
I thought a new gun would have to go to an FFL and be transfered. Either way that's cool. They replaced the gun and didn't jerk around trying to repair it.

My P99 QA came just like yours, a slight angle. All the rest in the store were exactly the same.

Interesting. I sent mine back to S&W, it looked exactly like the photo you posted at the beginning of the thread. I also had some wear that people on the Walther Forum thought was abnormal after 200 rounds - none of theirs with thousands of rounds had similar wear. They returned mine with a note saying "inspected and test fired - normal". I sold it and won't likely get another one.
Mine looks like the photo at top. Works to well to send it back.

Chass, can you confirm the gun NO longer has the 'warp'. I noticed you didn't send a new pic. Make sure it has the date on it.
I also noticed everybody just 'shut-up'. Can't believe you just found out S&W is replacing guns that looked like the photo and you're not discussing it.
Is it cause you all feel dumb you never questioned the flaw before? Shed your foolish pride people. This gawd-dam forum ain't just for exchanging perty pictures.
The P99 and P99C were replaced with new ones....no, I didn't post the pictures of the new ones but they were not warped as the originals ones were.....I already sold both of them....my own gut feeling is that Walther/S&W know about the warpness and handle it case by case....I feel this "fit & finish" issue does not in any way detract from the accuracy of the pistols....just looks shabby to me...only reason I sold them as I needed the cash....
wayneniamat,
geesch, did someone pis* in your cereal this morning?....here are the packing slips you requested....pic 208 and 209 is one repl......210 and 211 is the 2nd repl.....see the link....

funny, i read this thread, looked at my gun and sure enough, it's got the same warp...guess i'll be calling walther/s&w soon. how'd you ship the gun to them? did you ship the case and all or just the gun itself?
Walther sent me a FEDX label...just shipped the gun in a box....just the bare gun....no case....

hey, got a few more questions about the warped p99 if you don't mind.
did you call walther first and then have them refer you to s&w for service?
did they ask you for pictures or anything?
how long did the whole process take for the entire thing (you sending the gun in until you received it back)?
did you notice the warping right away before you'd even shot it or later on? i ask cuz i've already put about 600 rds through it and only looked after i read your thread.
thanks.
Sorry for not answering sooner.....Yes, I called Walther and was automatically put in to S&W Service....I sent the pictures on my own....I was sent 2 FedX AirBills, one for the P99 and one for the P99C.....I wrapped each gun in seperate FedX boxes along with the photos, just bare guns only and sent off.....whole process took about 4 weeks.....I noticed the warping on both guns at the beginning, put about 300 rounds thru the P99C and about 200 rounds thru the P99....both guns shot accurately and flawlessly, but I just didn't care for the appearence of the fit (I call warpness)....so I rec'd 2 each brand new guns, cases, etc....never shot the new ones and sold them on this board....I kinda regret selling them but for personal reasons, I had to sell........even with the warpness, I thought they were fine guns...

not sure what's goin on but i just called walther @ 800-372-6454 today and told them about the warping and the lady pretty curtly told me it's "normal" and due to the drying of the polymer. anyone else get this? would it make a difference if i tried to talk to call s&w?
