View Full Version : Dryfire Walther P22?
Got my P22 last week (from GT, thanks allglock) and while going thru the included pieces and parts i found a little blue plastic piece. Upon further inspection of the manual that piece is a 'dryfire simulation device' i'm guessing, since i haven't been able to find any other info tonite, that it goes in the side of the slide. Anyone know?

I just picked up my (my wife's that is) P22 Tuesday and didn't realize that was what that piece was for. I have snap caps for mine, so it didn't really matter. I guess I just thought it was like the piece they usually put in the chamber so you can tell there isn't a live round in there. Anyway, I called Walther and they said that as long as the safety is engaged, the firing pin isn't functioning, so dry fire away. I asked several times to make sure they were sure what I was asking, and they assured me that this was correct.

Thanks for that Matt, how do you like your S&W 640? I've got one also, it's a little hand cannon with the 357 mags huh.

I'd be tempted to get one, but for every 1 good post, I read 10 messages about failure to feeds or other issues with this gun.
I'll stick with my PT22 I guess...

I won't be able to say how it shoots until after next weekend, but she likes it, and for right now that's all that matters. I love my 640, and you're right, it gets real hard to hold on to with full house .357s (I was even shooting 158 grain!). Not painful recoil at all, just a lot of muzzle rise.
As long as you actually read the manual (gasp) and head the ammunition advice (hi power) I have had no failures to feed or function.
I have had a PT22, and couldn't hit at 50 yards with it, sio there is no comparison in my book. Easier to carry when hiking with a couple boxes of extra ammo for fun and just in case.
One sweet gun, if only it had a trigger like my Glock....

So U can hit at 50 yards with that Walther 22? From what I heard, it's not that accurate.
As for the PT22, it's good enough for a pocket gun. The accuracy is fine at 7 yards. And, mine works great.
I would be tempted to get a Walther, but have read too much neg stuff. And, the PT22 cost me only $130 when I got it back in 98 or 99.
Yes, fullsize pepper poppers are easy at that distance. No, it's not a target 22, but neither is the PT22.
And I only carry the P22 when I go out hiking, usually with my brother, and he has his. So IF we get into trouble of a 2 legged variety while enjoying the outdoors, we can defend ourselves without weighing ourselves down.
I NEVER would carry a 22 for urban self defense. I wouldn't want to get shot with any caliber, but if i have to defend my life, which is more likely in ann urban enviroment, I want a more efefective caliber and gun combination that any 22.
But it's a free country, so go ahead with what YOU like. It's probably more important that you actually HAVE a gun, than what type of caliber it is.

That's what mine does at 25 meters (27 yards):)

I think that the main problem stems from using lower velocity ammo in the P22. It likes higher velocity stuff like Mini-Mags, Stingers, Velocitors, etc...
I have 800 rounds of Mini-Mags through mine(going to pick up 500 rounds tomorrow, sick of making repeated trips only buying 2 boxes at a time), and I have absolutely ZERO, NONE, ZILCH failure to feed or ejects. Every single 10 round mag has been fully depleted without a malfunction, SA, DA, rapid fire. The only jam I had was a spent casing had lodged itself between the scope mount and the slide, keeping the slide from feeding the next round fully. Certainly not the fault of the gun.
