I've nearly paid off a 92FS. I'm a good shot with one, but being that I have small hands and the 92 is big, I can't reach the mag release, so I prefer other 9mm's.

But with me about to go Air Force, as a Security Forces grunt (who carry M4's and M9s) I need one to train with.

Got a slightly used one with 2 15 rounders at work for a decent price.

Good luck at Lackland!

I purchased my first Beretta (an Italian-made 92FC) as a "training" gun too....when I bought it I was active in my ANG unit's pistol team. At the time, I only owned a Browning HP 9mm.....obviously, a different feel and manual of arms involved with the BHP over that of the M9.

They are easy to break down and clean, that's for sure. You can get a lasermax for it if you want too.

I've got about 2,000-3,000 rounds through the 92 series so I know how it works, and how to take it apart. Just never thought I'd own one.

Admit it, you are a closet Beretta-phile. :joker:

Aren't Army guys the only ones considered to be grunts? ^8

Carry a rifle in uniform? I consider you a grunt.

You can call them Smurfs though (they're wearing blue berets).

Re: The mag release issue.
Flip it to the other side and hit it with your middle finger. That's what I do. Helpful instructions over at www.berettaforum.net in the Berettasmithing section.

I won't have that option with a milspec M9. Train like you fight.... I'll have a "righty" gun and I'm righty, so I either shift grip or use my left hand.

Can you sneak in an oversized mag. release?

I have average size hands and it lets me release the mag. on my EII without shifting my grip.

I don't think that's gonna be a problem unless you're fast enough to try to smoke 17 armed terrorists without having an ounce of cover while being shot at. A quick pause between your first 16 and second 15 shots should be the least of your concerns.

I doesn't seem to me Beretta's grip is that big, compared to a full size Glock it is very similar. The Vertec is smaller but I like the Std one better.

Primary weapon is an M4 carbine, the M9 would be a backup (if I even get one). Using my left hand is not necessarily "slower" just different for mag release, I can get it with my right if I have to, just takes a bit longer.
