mid-MD glocker reporting! I go to college in VA, but i'll be back in MD for the summer in three weeks.
A brand new MD Glocker here. Just picked up my first Glock today as a matter of fact.
Hey guys it's nice to see people from the old line state here! Does this forum have a section for us in the Mid Atlantic? I'm on here often so keep checking in.

I live in Maryland, south of Annapolis. I have a Glock 34. I've been trying to find a decent, well-lit indoor range in our area at which to shoot. I've been up to the MSAR range near Andrews AFB a few times. It's a fine facility with nice people, but the lighting stinks.
Any suggestions?

I live in Calvert County and I went to the MSAR for the firt time a couple of days ago. I agree with you about the lighting. After I fired a few rounds I actually went to see if they had any night sights that I could have installed. Luckily I have a friend with 270 acres in Hughesville that I am able to use for shooting, but I would still like to find a good indoor range.
Where do those of you who live in MD shop for shooting supplies and guns? It seems like every gun store that I have been to in this state charges MSRP or more on all their products. That was unheard of in Arizona, the state that I moved from a couple of years ago.

It's like a cave at MSAR. It's too bad, because just about everything else about the facility is first class. I have complained several times about the lighting, and have gotten nothing but lame excuses.
I buy 9mm and .22LR ammo from mail order suppliers, usually Natchez. There's a tackle show over in St. Marys County near the naval air station that isn't too bad on prices, and they do have some bargains from time to time. I bought a few boxes of name-brand mauser ammo there.
That place in St. Mary's, The Tackle Box, is where I just bought my G23. The gun itself sold for MSRP, but they gave me a great deal on a trade in that I had. They do have some good deals from time to time though, like recently when they were selling the new Glock Tactical Illuminators for $70. It didn't take long for those to go. Maybe a tactical illuminator and a good set of night sights would be the way to go at MSAR. If they saw their customers using illuminators it might get the point across that they need some lighting.

Last time I was there, I asked if they had a range with an electric plug so I could plug in my 250,000 candlepower spotlight. They don't seem to get it.
Hey guys ,I live in Northern Harford county around Bel air. I have a Glock 22 w/ GNS and ILS. I bought mine @ Fallston Gun and Pawn, overall they had the best price with what I have on it. There is a indoor range around here but to it's dark. There is a nice range in tomoumn(sp) but I forget the name of it. There isnt to many indoor places that i know of but any training helps.
I posted a request to start a Maryland forum. If this sounds like a good idea to you, please go to the following link and make yourself heard.

The indoor range in Timonium (north of baltimore just off 83)has a website located at: http://www.continentalarms.net/
I am not a fan of shooting indoors, seems unnatural and uncomfortable to me. I learned to shoot while hunting and that rarely takes place indoors. Nevertheless, I have shot at the indoor range in Timonium and it seemed well lit to me.
I prefer to shoot outside near Westminster at the Hap Baker facility: http://ccgov.carr.org/rec-park/hapbaker.htm.

The range in Harford County that JDH is talking about is Gunpowder Indoor Range in Bel Air, just off of Rt. 1. It is a bit rundown, but the owners are very nice and the prices quite reasonable. I enjoy shooting there.
The other range in Continental Arms in Timonium. It is much cleaner and better lit and also rents a good selection of guns (Glocks, S&W, Ruger). It is also much more expensive and can get crowded at times.

Anyone want to get together for a "shoot-off"? I promise to lose with my Glock 34, but...I might make it up with my Ruger Mark III!
PG County (Bowie/Upper Marlboro) G26 owner here.. There is also a range called On Target near Ft. Meade that is indoor range. I tried to buy a Millenium Pro .40 from them the other day but they wouldn't accept my NRA Pistol class as exemption from the stupid safety video.
So screw them, I'll buy my gun online and have it shipped to a FFL that will.. I've watched that video twice before, then went to the NRA class as well (for FL/VA CCW).
We should have a get-together sometime out at a range, would be nice to meet some of the guys/gals from this site.

*Side note* Anyone know any decent prices FFL's in the area?

From a former MD state resident, you are all welcome to shoot with us at Shooters Paradise in Woodbridge, VA (just south of the D.C. beltway & on the other side of 95 from Potomac Mills Mall). Besides regular practice 7 days a week (safe practice with a strong side holster allowed) we have Wednesday night shoots including USPSA/IPSC shoots, IDPA, ICORE (revolver), Pistol Practice and Tactical 2 or 3 gun (rifle, pistol, shotgun). You do not have to be any good at shooting to participate in these activities (I'm certainly not good) - just safe & it helps if you really enjoy shooting. More info is available on our website & forum at www.shootersparadise.com
Besides our Wednesday night shoots & Practice Sessions ($20 and almost always shoot on the move) we allow handguns, rifles up to .50 BMG, Class III for qualified owners and shotguns with any ammo you care to use since our Caswell low-lead backstop is designed for all of these weapons/ammo types. Best time to visit is during the week if possible. Sat. afternoon can get quite busy at Shooters.
Every Saturday, we teach a class designed for those interested in obtaining their Virginia permit to carry a concealed handgun. For this reason, we understand the need to maintain proficiency in skills such as a drawing from a concealed holster & engaging targets in rapid succession, thus those activities are allowed when done in a safe manner (same practice that is followed at the NRA HQ Range off Rt. 66). We also feature a fully-stocked gun store/pro-shop. Check out our website:

baltimore city (canton) checking in here. I usually shoot at Continental Arms. I used to go to select fire but that place is too small and I'm not a fan of the people that run it.
looking for an outdoor place to shoot on this side of the bay bridge

It seems everything I ever read about SelectFire has something negative to say about the management. To bad there aren't many other alternatives to go to and put them out of business.

I've been there twice. I also agree with them having pretty crappy customer service. I'm still learning, and went in there with a couple questions and they looked at me like i had ten heads when i asked them. They didn't seem to want to help me but they had no problem jumping in my convo when i called cartridges "bullets".;Q
I'm definately looking for a new place. Does on target have a better selection of guns to rent??

Does anyone in MD have a place to buy a glock? I'm in the hunt to purchase my first handgun (Glock 19). Sadly, in MD I haven't found one under $575-$600. I know you can find them cheaper online, but then I can't find anyone willing to do the transfer for under ~$60 making it almost as bad as buying in store. What do you fellow MD residents do when purchasing your guns?
I got mine from Fallston Gun n Pawn. I got a G 22 with ILS and FNS. I forget what I paid but no one else could touch the price around town.

Hi all, I'm an MD glocker from Harford county. The indoor range in Harford (Gunpowder) closed sometime ago. There is a very nice outdoor range in Cecil county Elkneck. As far as a cheap/reasonable place to purchase a glock I have purchased all of my firearms from "The Gun Shop" on Eastern Ave. It is a very small shop, but they have a great selection and are very friendly. When I purchased my Glock 23 alil over a year ago it was roughly $560 and came w/ 2 hi cap mags. Good luck in getting our own forum and I would be more then willing to go shooting.
Hey Jonnieo , wherebout in Harford County ? I go to Elkneck now and then. The only thing I dont like is the lack of targets. Go to www.mdshooters.com. It came about from a guy on this site and is pretty good for locals.

I'm actually in Edgewood, and you? Yea, at first I wasn't wild about the lack of target stand/holders but I just finished making a PVC pipe holder that pops together in just a few seconds. Plus it was less then five bucks to make so if I shoot it it's not a big deal to replace a section.
Do you have directions for the target stand.

As far as directions for the target stand I just made it no real "design" so to speak. I will try to take some pictures of it for you though.
As far as "The Gun Shop" their website it www.thegunshop.com it's a pretty weak site but has all the info needed. But I'll post if for you below anyway.

Mike, as the former indoor rangemaster at Saint Charles Sportsman Club, I personally showed the "stupid video" and signed off on many people's paperwork. I assure you, you WON'T find anyone who will accept your NRA pistol course certificate in substitution for a State card. Yes, the video is boring and redundant to most of us, but some folks have actually learned a thing or two. If you have watched the video as you say, where's your card? You can eaisly get a replacement card by contacting the firearms division of MSP in Jessup.

The old Gunpowder Range in Harford County is being reopened in summer 2006. I don't have the web site handy, but it is under new management and they seem to be trying to make it a nice facility. Prices might be a tad high, but I think it will be much better than what was there before. Outdoors at Elkneck is great in nice weather, but it will be really handy to have something local in the winter and after dark.

I bought my first Glock (first handgun actually) on Monday 5/1, and am still waiting to pick it up.
Love the country, and love the state minus the stupid gun laws.

Montgomery County here, Silver Spring precisely...MSAR is like my low light qualification everytime i go, but they give an LEO discount on range time. Its not necessarily a bad thing to practice shooting in the low light if anything ever goes "bump in the night". Haven't been there yet, but there's The Cop Shop (or The Glock Shop, can't remember which) in Baltimore that is supposed to have good prices.

Baltimore County, actually about 1 mile from continental arms, they just sold me my very first Glock (G27). I won't be able to pick it up for a while due to the laws in the People's Republic, but oh well.
Will be in O.C. for the summer, any good ranges down that way?
What's the difference between Cuba and Maryland?
One is a single-party police state, and the other is an island.

I second Fallston Gun for a new Glock. I drove way out of the way to get there, and it was worth it. I got a NIB G19... offer to pay in cash and ask for a little off of the gunshow asking price. Best price I could find for new, and really friendly and well informed staff.

Definitely buy online. I prefer topglock for the cheapest prices and they have been very reliable on all things ive ordered there. And for an FFL in MD, that I use is Jessup Pawn Shop. Contact HUGH STONE jessuppawn@msn.com
