View Full Version : SW P99s as good as Walther version? Kartar 04-20-2005, 03:23 I have seen the SW P99c but haven't shot it or the original Walther. Anyone know how they compare? bac1023 04-20-2005, 08:11 The Walther version is great, I love mine. Its very reliable and fairly accurate. I believe the SW model is virually identical. Fungunner 04-20-2005, 17:10 Mostly cosmetics. I prefer the sharper design of the Walther, but I also have a SW99 in .45 ACP. Mechanically inside, it appears to be the same as my P99s. The SW has a stainless steel slide and barrel and melonite coating, while the P99 uses hardened steel for both slide and barrel and a tenifer coating. If there was going to be any design differential, I'd say it would be the barrels and perhaps the methods the two manufacturers use to produce them. I don't claim to know if there is a difference, but from what I have read in the past, there are those who would make the claim that the Walther guns in the same caliber are more accurate. Onkel Walther 04-25-2005, 14:19 Fungunner ist right, the main difference is the slide. The frame and some other parts are made in germany by Walther. Barrel and slide are S&W products. The other differences are only cosmetics. The inside is identical. The SW design was introduced by Walther. They thought that this design would come up closer to the american taste than the P99 design ( thatīs true - no kidding! ). I never shot with the SW99 but the Walther is very accurate for a service pistol. farranger 05-02-2006, 19:13 Yes, I've owned both. I've even owned one of the New Jersey State Police used ones, they're all fine. The New Jersey state police one went through an 800 round course without a cough. Catbird 05-02-2006, 19:36 You'll have to take this with the proverbial grain of salt: Awhile back, I read of a side-by-side test of a P99 and a SW99 in one of the gun magazines. IIRC, they both functioned 100%, but the Walther was a bit more accurate. ShipWreck 05-02-2006, 19:51 Do a search for P99 - there are several threads in the past 24 hours pertaining to the P99, and the SW99 has been discussed as well in those threads. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
