Since the 92 mags fit 15 rounds, you would figure the 96 mag would be able to hold more than 11, right?
I've heard people trimming the follower or....? I have no experiance in this area so any info is good info.

My 92F factory mags fit 16 rounds for some reason.

The Beretta 92 Magazines were designed to easily fit 15 rounds and have sufficient play to allow for easy insertion into a pistol with the slide closed. This would sometimes allow for the insertion of a 16th round but the reliability aspect is suspect. A case by case issue if your OEM Beretta magazine will hold the 16th round and work reliably.

The 96 magazine was designed the same way but to accomodate 11 rounds of .40 ammo. In addition the original factory magazines for the 96 were very slightly longer than the 92 magazines and used a different baseplate design to disguise the difference.

The size of the follower is a big point and Mec-Gar magazines have redesigned the follower and spring to allow for 17 round capacity in their version of the 9mm Beretta magazine. I had several and they were 100% reliable in my guns. So much so I often carried them for personal protection. The .40 caliber Mec-Gar magazines will hold 12 rounds.

I personally would not attempt to modify the original magazines to carry more than 15. Instead buy some Mec-Gars with 17 round capacity to ensure piece of mind.

Today I am packing my Beretta 92D Centurion and quite happy with the 15 rounds of ammo on board. :)

After 1500+ rounds with 16+1 in the factory mags I trust them.

More power to you. Thats what I mean when you go case by case. I have several OEM Beretta magazines that will not accept the 16th round at all as well as several that will but not work reliably. YMMV. :)

Hey Foto......

.....I have one of those 92D Centurions too, but they version that FT and I have have a mag disconnect safety that need a specially made mag only made by Beretta.....it has a notch on the upper right side of the mag. One or more of my mags maybe defective causing my 92D to malfunction.

Mec-Gar makes a flush fit 17-round Beretta 92 magazine.

Why bother cramming 16rds into a 15rd mag? You can now buy factory beretta and mec gar 20rd mags for about $35(ish).

I just wish someone would make a HC .40 magazine. Why nobody has done this yet it beyond me.

I have a Cx4 Storm and would love to have (at least) a 20 round magazine for it.

The magazines are identical and the 40 ammo is much larger than the 9mm, so no, I wouldn't figure to fit more than 11 into a 15rd mag. As others have said, Mecgar makes magazines that will hold 17rds of 9mm which would hold atleast 12, maybe 13 rounds of 40.

A factory 20rd .40 mag for the CX4 Storm would be a big seller.

I tried using an aftermarket 9mm 30 rd mag but never could get it to run reliably. It's up to Beretta or Mecgar to do it right.

Can you "dremel" the problem out?

I dremelled the first problem, a rough weld that wasn't a problem with 9mm rounds but caught on the 40s. I grinding bit on the flex shaft so that it would fit far enough into the mag body fixed that.

The other problem was with the feed lips and I never could seem to get it right. Best I could do was a misfeed once or twice per magazine.

How about a .40 follower from another mag that fits in that mag? Don't give up!!
