I put the overmolded HiViz fiber optic front sight on my P99AS 9mm. I have HiViz sights on my Rugers and my Sig and I like the way they perform. I found the Walther sight at OnPoint for only $19.95 so I decided to give it a try.
Removing the factory sight was a piece of cake. Unfortunately, the HiViz mounting system isn't as simple. It uses a small hex-headed bolt (about 5mm) that `you have to torque into place. I had a hard time getting a socket down in there to get it tight. I was also foolish enough to try it the first time without any Loctite. It lasted for about 30 rounds before it came loose! The second time I put blue Loctite on the threads. I put 300 rounds through it tonight with no problems.
It took me a few rounds to get the right sight picture, but once I settled in the rounds seem to fall on target just fine. I put a couple of pics on my website, here: http://users.adelphia.net/~navy87guy/targets.html Scroll down to the P99 targets for 23 April. The groups stayed as tight as anything I had shot before...13 rounds in an inch and a half at 10 yds was okay with me!
I also got my CompTac C-T.A.C. IWB holster today. Talk about service...I ordered it on Wednesday and it was here less than 48 hours later! The holster is well made and very comfortable. The retention is perfect -- enough to keep it in place (even when removed from the belt) but still giving a very easy draw. The whole rig is less than 1 1/2 inches wide...very nice indeed.
All in all, it was a great day for my P99. It's by far the best pistol in my collection -- I can't wait to work with it some more!
