OK, my wife wants the p22.

What do I need to watch out for?

When did they change to the new style magazines?

Any generational issues I should watch for?

Any bad serial #s to keep in mind?

Weak spots to examine?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Avoid any used ones. Chances are excellent that the original owner sold them because that gun sucked. You should be able to find news ones for $250-300 (Or more if you want accessories with it).

As long as the mag has "-A" at the end of it, you're fine. In fact, if you can find a used one without them, all the better. You'll get it cheap, and then you can call Walther Customer Service, and swap them out for new "-A" mags for free. It's an easy way to save some money.

Other tips.
Use hi-vel ammo in it, like CCI Stingers or MiniMags. Slow bulk ammo tends to malf in this pistol, at least until well broken in. Also, it helps to leave it empty & hammer cocked in your safe for about 1-2wks before going shooting with it. Read teh manual & look at the pics for disassembly & reassembly. The little black plastic 'stick' in the tool bag is important to reassemble the pistol. One of the barrels in a 2-barrel set will be stamped with a 2-letter code (AA, AB,AC etc.) It indicates the year of manufacture. Newer is better typically.
AA=2000
AB=2001
AC=2002
AD=2003
etc.

Two important sites to visit:

P22 Fixes:
http://www.sju.edu/~bc165187/p22main.html

Rimfire Central/Walther forum: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=48

Both of these have lots of information you will find useful.

I've had mine for about a month and we (wife, son, and I) all love it. Tons of fun.
