View Full Version : Kimber/Delta, 70/80
would any of you who have definite preferences for one brand and/or series of 1911 care to share the reasons?
I went with Kimber because it is current production and would have factory support.
Looks nice too.:)

heh heh, ya me too :) but are those Eclipses actually in production or were they a limited run from 2004?
my 10mm "mentor" has a Gold Cup, all worked up, slide like glass, feels like ball bearings or something. that's what i learned on, but he's a collector too and says that alot of people prefer the series 70 due to the lighter trigger, but that some prefer the series 80 because of the safety, that it's more drop-proof? and however it does that is also what makes the trigger heavier and that's where people are divided in their preferences, according to him.
i was also wondering if some brands have stronger frames than others even though they're all the same basic design? i've also heard that the Kimber and Dan Wesson guns come stock with better parts like match barrels and nicer extractor/ejectors etc.
but my friend's favorite 10mm guns? the S/W 10xx series.

I've owned both series of 1911 and most could use a good tune-up and polish by a good gunsmith. Once that is done, I couldn't tell the difference between the 70's and 80's.
The only 1911 type gun that I've ever heard of having problems were the very early Delta Elites, but that was detected early and corrected. As far as I know Kimber is still making both the Eclipse and the Stainless Target II. Unless I find a rare one before then, my next firearm will likely be the Eclipse.
I too am a big fan of the S&W line, I have all their semi-auto's except for the rare 1046. They are very solid guns and I honestly think a person could shoot them for a lifetime and they'd keep working...
Even with the S&W's and 1911's out there, I always resort to using my Glock's for real "work". I use the G20 for home defense and the G29 for CCW. All of my other 10mm's are range guns or safe queens. It really depends on what your desired usage is for the gun.
Here's a pic of my 10mm's. I have several of some of the models, but only pictured one. Also, not pictured is my new Springfield Omega Match.

that's some bad company! i see you're partial to stainless steel.. i'm partial to "evil black guns" myself, and hi-cap, which is why if i could only have one, it would be my G20. i go to the range and enjoy shooting, but if it didn't have the functional aspect of making me a more deadly defender, it would lose its lustre for me.. just never was one to do things for their own sake.
but i do enjoy the technology as well, and can't deny the steel guns are easier for me to shoot but i'm committed to mastering the '20 because it's the tactical king of the hill. i'd like to see a double-stack 1911 like the Para in 10mm and if i was filthy rich i'd have one built from scratch but barring that they're just not in the game, tactically. and i love their simplicity. my 1911/SW friend says, "Glocks have no *soul*", and i say, "yeahhhh, sexy isn't it?".. heh heh heh..
hmmmm this has turned into a Glock thread.. :)
