I'm wondering what advantages do you find with this setup? Why did you decide to go this route, and not keep your opticals seperate from your iron sites?

Why did you decide to go this route, and not keep your opticals seperate from your iron sites? phanp 05-01-2005, 02:37 just in case u need to use your irons for back up AtreidesAR15 05-01-2005, 03:30 But most modern optics are pretty easy to remove quickly. I know my Eotechs & Aimpoints are secured with only one anchor srew each. With that in mind, it wouldn't be a problem for me at all to just remove my optics to get to the irons. I find having the front sight post in the feild of view of my optics to be obtrusive. It's also alot faster to focus on target using the "Red Dot" than trying to focus on the target over the front post. Does anyone else like co-witnessing? chevrofreak 05-01-2005, 05:51 I dont use quick release mounts on my AK. Cowtinessing: mounts the sight lower for a more natural cheek weld allows continued firing in the event of a sight malfunction is coooooooooooool A.F. Lineman 05-01-2005, 10:14 I have a cowitness set-up because it is what I was trained on and it works for me. It took a little while to get used to, but now it is natural. MrMurphy 05-01-2005, 12:35 Not to mention for serious purposes, you might not have TIME to get the QD setup off.... getting a flipup rear in action means press button and lift, that is it. Same sight picture, no having to figure out where to stow/drop the scope, etc. Just flip and keep shooting. They make fold down fronts as well. phanp 05-01-2005, 12:48 I use the aimpoint on a larue quick release mount with the arms 40l and if i have a scope problem with the flip of the lever i have my irons for back up the front post dosent bother me at all getdown_glocker 05-01-2005, 16:06 If my EOTech fails, I've got a backup and I don't have to change my head position. http://www.interintense.com/hkusp45c/m4a3_eotecharms_close_a.jpg Michigun 05-01-2005, 17:38 Taking a mounted optic off is slow no matter how “quick release” it is compared to a co-witnessed set-up... heck, even flip-up rear iron sights &/or flip-up front iron sights are slow compared to a co-witnessed set-up. I prefer a fixed rear BUIS & a fixed front sight myself... don’t even notice them while focusing on the target. ^c crash700 05-05-2005, 14:38 I have the GG&G flip up rear on my A3 and an Eotech. I like the cowitnessing as it is an assurance to me that when I pop the trunk and pull out my rifle that my Eotech is still on target before I do an entry into a house or whatever the case may be, I am accountable for all rounds fired as well as any rounds that don't hit their target. It is peace of mind for me. ;? Bearcat 05-05-2005, 15:38 Hey getdown_glocker, What model ARMS sight is that on your AR? Is it a 40 or a 40A2? Does it co-witness perfectly with your EOTech sight? I need to know for a personal project. Thanks. lastevolution 05-05-2005, 16:19 Originally posted by Bearcat Hey getdown_glocker, What model ARMS sight is that on your AR? Is it a 40 or a 40A2? I'd like to know, as well. demusn79 06-01-2005, 17:46 i have the a-4 ,40L and EOTech and it does co-witness perfectly and i think its great i just wish the EOTech had a memory so it didnt always start so bright. demusn79 06-01-2005, 17:52 40L series1811 06-01-2005, 21:12 You make a good point. If your AR is not used for self defense, there is not really a need to co-witness, although it is an efficient way to set things up. Everybody says that the front sight isn't much of a bother, but it sure bothers me. I'm considering removing it. Oh, well . . . to each his own. At least we have a choice. GlockSteve 06-05-2005, 21:44 Originally posted by Michigun I prefer a fixed rear BUIS & a fixed front sight myself... don’t even notice them while focusing on the target. ^c I have a fixed BUIS on my RRA now, and am trying to decide how to do the red-dot setup. When you co-witness with this setup, do you look through the rear aperature at the dot site?? demusn79 06-06-2005, 16:44 you look through the EOTech as it were not there.when you turn it on the dot should be on top of the front sight post as if it were the target itself.hope that helps. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
