My Paratrooper SKS has had issues feeding so I knew I needed to change the mag before yesterday, but I did not know exactly how bad they were. It would jam on Cheetah FMJ. On top of that, when it did jam, it would push the bullet a 1/4" back into the case, creating an instant dud.

So my question is who makes the best aftermarket fixed mag? 10 or 30rder if there are any good 30rders?

I would recommend staying with the Chinese 10 or 20 round fixed mags & using stripper clips to refill.

Heard MANY stories of malfunctions as a FFL at Gunshows...with the 30 rounders, esp the "USA" Brand Mags!

For detachable mags, best to go with a AK or AKM!

I have never had any luck with the detachable type mags for the SKS. I agree, I would stick with the factory fixed mag. I have never had a problem with mine.

Yeah, stay with the stock mag, the aftermarket stuff will not fix any problems.

Is there at least some sort of spring replacement I can get, because an SKS that will not feed any type of ammo reliably is a fifty year old club? Also, in terms of replacing the mag, I would have been changing it out for another fixed mag if that was not made clear before.

The only aftermarket magazine I have found reliable time and time again is the fixed 20 round chinese "fin" magazine. They were very abundent during the early Clinton days, but have seem to dried up pretty good. If you can find one try one of those and you'll be good to go.
