I like the "new" country. It reminds me of the early 70's rock when you could actually hear a melody and understand the words.

You folks should give Bluegrass a try-it's what country used to be.
No electricity, great harmony singing and best of all, NO DRUMS!

I know it's not what "country" claims to be these days, but Johnny Cash is the BEST example of what I'd consider to be REAL COUNTRY. Just a simple country boy.. no bullcrap.. no overly mixed in rock influences.. the man was PURE.

Johnny Cash is my favorite, but you can't forget Willie Nelson either. Especially when it's just Willie and his guitar and nothing else.

Can anybody recommend some good Conway Twitty. It used to make my buddy cry, but I don't know which one. That's good enough for me.

-jerry Old No-Show, huh?

I hear his latest wife straightened him out.

I read an interview with George a few weeks ago. They asked him about Tammy's allegation that he had pointed a gun at her. George said, "That's not true. I never shot at her."

Love the way he shifted that.

If you know him, you pretty well know he probably did.

My dad used to work with one of George's sons, and hang out a little with his other son.

Roger Miller ranks right up there with the best of country.
He was a songwriter as well as great singer...He will not
soon be replaced.

I read a comment on this subject once that I found amusing.

A writer said, "I just can't stand anybody who won't admit that they like country music."

Early stuff from Hank, Patsy Cline, etc.on through "the Outlaws", to Charley Pride, Freddy Fender, etc.. Don't care too much for the older, twangier-stuff earlier than the 1960's. However, everything from the 70's forward is all good. Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, Charlies(Pride and Rich).

Of course, it's morphed into 'pop-country' today. Most of it's usually good. The artists who are best 'keeping the faith' are George Straight, Alan Jackson, and perhaps Brookes and Dunn.;)

What about Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys?

That's good country.
