View Full Version : Focus owners speak up
I was in need of a daily driver since I am returning to college in a town about 30 miles away, and I don't want to pay for the gas in my F250 w/a V10, lol. I decided on a Focus ZX4 SES. Any mods I can make to get more HP out of it. I bought a stick, naturally, and the car seems pretty fun to drive.
if you want a daily driver, have chosen the focus, and its fun to drive, I wouldn't personally mess with it much. Any mods that actually add HP are a compromise between performance, reliability, and mileage.
if anything, I'd do a short shifter (depending on how you like the stock one...), an intake, exhaust, maybe a header. You're not going to turn a focus into a Cobra with bolt ons, but a little noise will make it seem faster...

We have an 03 focus. So far been a good car. Have had a few minor issues but nothing major.

The old lady has a 03 3 door. Put the Motorsport blower on it and the thing zings. Also look into a cold air kit (not just a filter). Which motor did you get? 2.0 or 2.3?
Don't worry about the motor.
Why spend $4000 on a blower when you'll STILL be slower than a stock '99-later 4.6 Mustang?
These cars handle really well and are very fun to drive. Emphasize that if you want to mod it.
You can get the SVT focus handling kit from Ford Motorsport for about $279. Comes with SVT struts, shocks, sway bar, and coil springs! Thats a good deal! Put on some nice wheels and you'll have a car thats even more fun to drive (reliable too) and will still give you good gas mileage.

Or, I can wait until next year and just get an SVT, which I would have done, but I need a commuter car now, lol. With the "A" plan though, I should not lose my ass if I do decide to get an SVT when they come out.
The SVT Focus is no longer made.
It was made from 2001-2004 I believe.
And it really is a commuter car.
Just handles even better than a regular focus, has a 6-speed stick, and slightly more power. It will still get great gas mileage.

Yeah, they had to take a year off to do the Cobra, but next year there will be an SVT Focus again, according to the dealership.
I did a search on the ol' net and all I found was that there were no short term plans for an SVT focus.
There is only the Focus 5-door ST. It's a 2.3ltr (bigger than the focus svt 2.0) and a 5-speed. I've driven one of these and it's pretty torquey for a NA 4 cyl.

If I were in charge of the SVT team (I am not, nor is John Colotti anymore, now it's some Japanese dude), I would do a Lightning next. A Lightning on the new F150 platform would be awesome.

He's not Japanese, he's Vietnamese.
Reminds of the King of the Hill episode where he meets his asian neighbor.
"So are ya Chinese or Japanese?"
"You hillbilly, I am Laotian!"
"So is that Chinese or Japanese?
