I just got a p38 from my grandfather ! It's really cool. It's 1967 so it's not a nazi gun or anything.
Any p38'ers out there? I haven't seen any posts about them.
What you have is a P1 not P38.
The difference is, the P38 was out of steel the P1 has a alu frame.
Here a picture of my P1:

Here a P08 then P38 and then the P1:

Here a closeup of the P38:

The P38 is much better gun then the P1, even if it was built in 1944 and the P1 is 23 junger!
The civilian version of the P1 then was then the P5. SOG sells those at this time for $460, which is too much I think.

Cool :) U have the whole set! :)
Mine says P38 Cal. 9mm Carl Walther Waffenfabrik Ulm/Do.
then it has the walther flag thingy. and it says 67 on the trigger guard with a deer antler. I will take a picture as soon as my rechargables are done charging.
It feels like steel.
Hmm.
I am not an expert on Walther, maybe they made some P38 after the war!?

Yeah I'm not either. The p38 on yours is very plain, as the p1 has more of the design of my slide. the walther flag etc. Except it says p38 instead. Much confusion. My grandfather is really into guns so it was either a re-press type deal or something as I'm sure he wouldn't buy something that wasn't real.
edited found some batteries :D

Actually I wanted to say, that I didn't know that Walther made steel framed P38 after the war.
The difference between P38 and P1 post war is that the P1 was military and the P38 commercial and therefore a little better in finish.
My P38 is a 1944 made Mauser product.
The interesting thing is, the P08 is a 1942 Mauser!
You can see how they were cutting corners!

The PPK/S is a neat little gun.
That is what is in the picture.
So is the PP!!
I have both!!
I have what is probably a P1 - while the slide says p38 the frame is alloy.
I shoots fine with certain handloads- I use a lot of lube/grease to reduce the wear on the slide which is noticeable.

it says 67 on the trigger guard with a deer antler.
I don't know if you know the meanings of the stamps but if you don't, 67 is the year is was made and the deer antler means it was made at Walther's Ulm plant.
Nice looking gun. Here's a pic. of my ac42.

You will find as well the german eagle with an N below it for "Nitrium" on the barrel, frame and slide.

I have one I bought new in 1982 that says P-38. I have never
got around to shoot it. What ammo have you experimented with ?
John!
