I picked up this cherry Beretta 92 tonight.

I know next to nothing about the differences in Beretta 92's.

Neither did the guy I got it from. It would appear to be a European version because of the location of the mag release. I'm sure someone knows a lot more about these than I do.

Here's a few pics:

Any info greatly appreciated.

Anybody know when it was made?

Serial # is

B362xxZ (the x's are numbers)

On the right side of the frame it says:

"Berben Corporation, NY,NY-PB-MOD.92-MADE IN ITALY-PATENTED"

On the left:

"PIETRO BERETTA GARDONE V.T. CAL.9 Parabellum"

It appears to be unfired. There's not a mark on it, and the bluing is "old school" blue.

You should post this over at berettaforum.net to get more expert opinions about this one. I believe that is an original model 92 and in that condition is a great find. There are a few members at the forum that have these, but maybe not in as good of condition as yours. Don't know what you paid, but I'm sure you got a good deal by the looks of it. Yours would have to be pre-1980.

He did post this on the berettaforum and got answers.

Beautiful gun! My advice is to keep it as an heirloom and get another Beretta 92FS for shooting. Lucky you for stumbling on a nice piece like that.

No heirloom. I'm going to shoot it until it looks like an old war horse.

Guns are meant to be shot, not collected like postage stamps.

As someone advised you on one of those other boards, probably best to stay away from any amount of +P ammo in this gun, Snub--eh, Jerome.

There's plenty of good ammunition available without going to +P.

Anybody know where to get checkered grips for these?

I like the looks of the smooth walnut, but they will be pretty slippery on hot days........

You could use classifieds and say want to buy or want to trade or even want to sell. This would work if you don't want to keep the grips. I would think it may be difficult to get a set that you want.

I forgot to mention you can have that set checkered and refinished.

I used Hogues wrapm around grips on both my 92fs and my old 92sb. A very small amount of dremmel work on the rubber and they work great. My GLOCKs rock but I shoot my Beretta better.:)

this 92 is what the PT 92 was made from.
