Drum solo ?

I want to pick up the album but I don't remember who did it.Very popular solo from the late 60's or early 70's. I'm thinking Cream or Iron Butterfly. the basics of the solo was just a constant deep thumping and then he'd come in with the toms or an open snare, anyway hard to explain. Any ideas?
