I recently came across the below info at Ammolab (www.ammolab.com), and read the recent posts reguarding the 147's here at Niner's Club.
Lab & Street Proven Loadings
We receive tens of thousands of email and messages each year from readers who want to know if we have street shooting files. The answer is no we do not, we do consult on dozens of court cases each year but those files are the property of our clients and the Agencies they work for.
Having said that and acknowledged that we do not have access to secret information here is a list of handgun loadings that have worked effectively for the LE Officers who depended upon them that have also tested very well in the laboratory:
9mm-
Federal 135gr LE9T5
Remington 147gr Golden Saber
Speer Gold Dot 124gr+P
Winchester Ranger 127gr +P+ RA9TA
Winchester Ranger 147gr RA9T
The Golden Saber is available in every shop that sells ammunition around here so I picked up 150 rounds for testing. If it functioned well I'd have no problems finding it in the future.
Tonight, using my G26, I ran the first 10 rounds through the Chronos. Average velocity was 1008 fps. The velocities were very consistant, with a 1004 for a low and 1014 for a high. From what I've read on the 147gr loads, this is fairly good for a 3 1/2" tube.
In all, I went through 100rnds and saved the last 50 for carry. I encountered zero malfunctions and accuracy was outstanding. This might be because the recoil is SO much less than my usual carry, the Corbon 115gr+P. It's also MUCH quieter and had less flash.
Our winters seem to last 9 months around here. Normal dress is a couple undershirts, a flannel shirt and a heavy Carthart Jacket. I'm thinking the heavier bullet would suit me much better, given my environment.
