Does anyone really feel that EG Maks are so superior to Bulgarian Maks that they command the price difference? In my mind's eye a Bulgie is every bit as good for shooting/carry and a true bargain. Regards, Richard :D

No. The price difference has more to do with how common the Bulgarians are compared to the EG's.

I understand the EG Maks have a little nicer finish also. I've never seen one, so I can't comment first hand.

I've got to have one.Had three Bulgarians. Traded one for a G19. Gave one to my son.One left.
I'm working on an IJ-70 now. But I would love to have an EG.

FWIW I have 3 EG maks...paid ($ 250,195 and 140) for the three. Looked at a milsup bulgy ($ 180) and a arsenal bulgy($ 213) and decided the germans looked better and seemed to have a better fit and finish. If you can find them in the price range 250 and below...then yes they are a better choice, However based on some of the prices I see EG's going for...they don't IMHO command $300-400 value some seem to put on them.

100.00 cool smackers for my e. german mak i really can't comment. but i had an ij-70 that i really had no love for at all those funky adjustable sights or are they self adjusting? just kidding they would change impact points on a whim till i loctited them down. but the finish was sub-standard and had lots of milling marks it just wasnt on par with the e. germans, to be honest though i think the e. german mak owners are just a cult of personality meaning there are much fewer of them and that raises a fictional value. i believe the bulgies are just as nice and would buy one but my e. german is SOOOO much nicer......naah naah just kidding. be safe

Trigger pull, fit and finish and the level of workmanship tend to be higher on the DDR Makarovs.

My EG is definitely better than my Bulgie. There is no comparison between the triggers. I got an extra hammer spring and done a trigger job on the Bulgie, it is close but not as good as my EG now. Also, I know this is just a "quirk" of my Bulgie , but the slide hold open lever has something going on with it. It will not hold the slide open all the time when it should. I spent a good 3 hrs one night trying to figure it out and couldn't. The one out of my EG works fine in the Bulgie. In doing a side by side comparison they both appear to be the same. Oh well, I'll just have to get a new one for my Bulgie.
I have 2 EGs & 4 Bulgys. Fit & finish on the EGs is much better than the Bulgys but only one of the EGs has a trigger I would rate as much better than the Bulgys. Nothing wrong with the Bulgys for any purpose I can think of but that one EG I have with the light/smooth trigger and great finish is definitely a keeper and worth the extra price (to me).

I have four EGs and four Bulgies (plus others). Upon examining surface finishing and individual parts finish at about 10X, it is obvious that the EG Mak is better finished, even if only slightly so.
Overall, the Russian, Bulgarian and East German military Maks have some of the best fit and finish, with the Russian and East German slightly ahead.
The bottom of the barrel is the IJ70, with the Norinco imports a close second.
That being said, even a poor Mak is better than none.

I'd like to have a double-stack Mak. If someone would make some magazines for them.
Problem is they cost over $250 and might come with a crummy aftermarket magazine or a 10rd mag.
For the money spent one is better off buying a CZ-83.
