What is the LEM variant. Is that just a heaver trigger?
From the H&K website:
The Heckler & Koch LEM
(Law Enforcement Modification) trigger system combines the safety and reliability of a traditional double action with the smoothness and accuracy of a single action pistol. The innovative two-piece hammer gives an LEM equipped HK a positive 7.5 to 8.5 pound break point. The short trigger reset ensures that follow up shots are rapid and on target.

Ok. I don't know how to explain this very well - you'll just have to find one to play with yourself.
They come in either 5lb or 8lb triggers. You'll actually be impressed. I know I was.
When you fire a shot, and hold the trigger back, the hammer stays back also, and goes down as you release the trigger. The reset is actually very short, so if you needed to fire a second shot, the triggers already back and ready to fire again.
I hate DA only pistols. But, if I had the money, I would purchase a USP or a P2000 with the LEM trigger.

I almost hated the LEM when I first bought my P2000. I wouldn't trade it for the world now. Took me about 400 rounds to get it right but I got it down pat now. The trigger feel is the smoothest feel ever from start to discharge. It's harder to adjust to than DA/SA or Glock's Safe Action but once you've adjusted to it, it is in a class by itself.
I am thinking of purchasing one. Is there a special item number when ordering the p2000 with the 5lb. LEM trigger?

I'm not sure -- it may also depend on where you're ording one from, also.

Is the LEM different than the Varient 7 DAO option that HK offers? I dryfired the V7 and it was very light and smooth also.

DAO is usually a constant double action pull. LEM is very light at first, then is " Stiffer " the last part of the pull. You really have to try it to see what were all talking about.
As I said, the first time i tried it I didnt like it. But it has grown on me as Ive shot it a few more times.

Thanks MG, I'll go look for one to try out before I purchase anything.
