View Full Version : What's your favorite .22LR ? Poodleshooter 10-01-2001, 10:36 If other-post it! duncan 10-01-2001, 11:08 whatever WalMart has on sale. the 550 Value packs - Federal classic or Rem golden bullets. Eagles1181 10-01-2001, 12:37 Thundbolt, but I am not sure if it is a high velocity or standard. Eagle Rimfire member #1181 Terrier/Sandhawk 10-01-2001, 13:06 Remington Golden for sure. They're the least expencive (usualy) here in south central In.If not Goldens then Winchester Dynapoint. I've never had any real problems with either of this ammo. However, anyone got any ideas on what the better .22 mag ammo is? I've been using the PMC Predator .22 mag ammo with good results. T/S Blackcatt 10-01-2001, 13:54 Depends on my rifles mood... usually shoot Federal but, I like CCI's stuff and Eley, too. Haven't tried the Goldens, how are they? May have to try them :) BC student 10-01-2001, 20:21 My favorite is PMC standard velocity scoremaster for my rifle but my pistol loves scoremaster and winchester wildcats. student 10-01-2001, 22:40 Depends on the Gun - my Trailside loves PMC Scoremaster my MKII Govt likes Blazer, Rem Tgt, my MKII Tgt likes Thunderbolt and my 22/45 likesRem Tgt... Can I have like 6 votes?? postban 10-03-2001, 05:05 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=244108&a=9300773&p=53811042&Sequence=0&res=high This likes Win Power Point the best. more pics; http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=244108&a=13615385&f=0 KIDCOP 10-03-2001, 13:10 My Smith 41 shoots T-22 the best but, T-22 will not go off enough to get through timed and rapid fire targets. So CCI Standard is the choice. My BuckMark 5.5 likes PMC Scoremaster but, can't find it. So it's CCI Standard. Best 40MIKE 10-04-2001, 09:35 Hey postban, nice to see you here. GT'ers, this guy knows his stuff. My CMP Kimber likes Aguila SE for silhouette, and Eley Tenex for smallbore. 40MIKE out (hee-hee) podwich 10-04-2001, 14:54 Winchester Wildcat. Cheap, shoots fast (I did a weird test-aimed my gun at a certain point and saw where various ammo types hit the dirt) and generally accurate. Also have virtually zero failures with this ammo. LAB RAT 10-05-2001, 17:10 Let's see how many .22 rimfire shooters get this right. What does CCI stand for? ;d ;a ;a podwich 10-05-2001, 18:13 Cascade Cartridge, Inc. Ain't I smart? :) LAB RAT 10-05-2001, 22:59 Way to go Podwich!:) mayhem26 10-14-2001, 02:22 There's nothing better(or more expensive) than Eley Tenex for serious competition IMHO.Not for daily shooting though, unless your name happens to be Gates. 1811guy 10-14-2001, 03:13 I agree. Eley Tenex is superb. My 10/22T and Trailside love it. When I don't shoot Eley Tenex, my 10/22T prefers CCI Mini Mag, my 10/22 eats anything, so does my Buckmark. I usually shoot Federal high velocity through them and use Stingers for hunting smalll game. Stingers would have to be my favorite. Too bad they don't work with tighter chambers. Jbar4Ranch 10-14-2001, 04:38 550 round Federal Bulk Pacs are $8.79? at WallyWorld and once in awhile Federal puts out "Bonus Pacs" of 600 rounds for the same price. The Remington Bulk Pacs always seemed to have an inordinate number of duds, 5 or 6 per box which works out to an unacceptable 1%+ failure rate. I don't ever recall having a failure to fire w/Federals. USMCsilver 10-17-2001, 05:17 Jbar4Ranch, couldn't agree with you more! Federal is the way to go. Reliable! Plus, that gold dust that the Rem's put out sucks! Can't stand to look like I have painted my fingers after loading a mag! Poodleshooter 10-19-2001, 03:39 Regarding Federals, I miss the old 40gr lubed lead Federal Lightnings that came in the blue boxes. Those things were the most accurate .22's I ever fired, especially when you considered their price. Unfortunately they faded away when American Eagle came on the scene..... Key2America 10-22-2001, 01:48 <b>Lapua</b> claims to hold the #1 rating worldwide.... has anyone used it. Serious competition ammo... and the price reflects it. If you have tried their ammo, which variety do you prefer? Anyone? kmrcstintn 06-12-2002, 17:54 I'm in the other standard target grade...550 bulk Federal at Walmart for $9...so far very few problems...have tried Remington orange box target and have had @ 10-15 duds out of 2 425 round boxes from different batches B Coyote 06-13-2002, 00:31 It was a hard choice. My guns all seem to like them. Granted, a couple of my rimfires like Federal 711 or 711B; and a couple seem to like CCI Standard Velocity... For plinking I use Federal Bulk packs from Wally World. My CZ gets a steady diet of the 711. I haven't tried Tenex, or any of the other companies "super premium" rimfire loads; I just can't afford them. When it comes down to best overall functioning AND accuracy, I reach for MiniMags. I remember someone once saying "MiniMags are the Budweiser of .22's...not the best, not the most expensive, but they do the job every time." That's good enough for me. bc Bryan Whited 06-13-2002, 10:12 Out of my 41 Wolf Match Target is the most accurate. PMC Zapper is right behind it and is much cleaner. Both of these outperformed even the high end stuff (Tenex and its friends). okie 06-14-2002, 06:12 CCI mini mags and the 550 pack of federals thet wally world sells:) zanthope 06-14-2002, 13:51 Regarding Federals, I miss the old 40gr lubed lead Federal Lightnings that came in the blue boxes I'm buying Federal Lightnings in a RED box from Wally World for .98/50. They are among my new Thompson Center Classic's favorites. I chronyed a few....1188, 1167, 1189, 1203, 1187. Good consistency and excellent for 100 yards on calm days. If you have tried their ammo, which variety do you prefer? Anyone? I've shot Eley, Lapua, RWS, Jagd, Winchester T22, CCI Green Tag, and Remington std vel through my Anschutz 1613 over the past 14 years. (And, yes, I have the NRA classification cards in smallbore prone, 3p, and 4p to back up what I am about to say.) Eley 10X is by far the best at 100yds with Lapua Midas a close second. At 50yds/m the groups are almost identical. (I have not shot any of the 'new' EPS Eley ammo, so I cannot comment on their new design.) Although RWS makes a very high quality product, it has performed below expectations in my gun. The Jagd-und is good enough for practice ammo, but the groups are slightly larger than what can be obtained with Eley or Lapua. Winchester T22 and remington std vel are fine for shooting indoors at 50', but perform horribly (groups grow by 3-5x over eley) outdoors. I put 200 rds of the CCI green tag through my gun about 10 years ago. The stuff was so incredibly dirty that I never bothered with it again. The above mentioned ammo, however, is purely competition grade. For regular plinking in my 10/22, MkII, Win61, and High Standards I prefer the bulk packs of winchester or federal from WalMart. 06-18-2002, 12:54 Aguilla Citori 06-18-2002, 23:09 Wolf Match Target, my far. It outshoots everything even close to its $17/brick price. Richard K 06-19-2002, 16:25 I'm surprised no one has mentioned Winchester Dynapoints. In many of my .22s accuracy approaches that of match ammo. Poodleshooter 07-01-2002, 12:32 Originally posted by zanthope I'm buying Federal Lightnings in a RED box from Wally World for .98/50. I've recently (re)discovered those. My local KMart sells them for $7.70 a brick, and they shoot better than the $10 per brick WalMart bulk packs! I also found them to have excellent consistency-as opposed to the rather shoddily inconsistent lots of Winchester X-perts turning up in discount stores lately. Key2America 07-03-2002, 21:39 Poodleshooter, maybe in your neck of the woods Kmart's still sell ammo, but for many of us they stopped some time ago, unless that has changed. Some of us currently "boycott" Kmarts because of their anti guns and ammo stand. Does anyone else live in an area where Kmart sells ammo??? Just curious... B Coyote 07-04-2002, 06:12 K2A, Kmart in Northwest Indiana still sells ammo, but their selection sucks. I'm still boycotting so it doesn't matter. bc vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
