I do... I would like to see if DT would do a load for 9x18...

like i do..its easy and you get what you want i use hornady 95 gr xtp's and some unique. nothing to it.

It may come to that, and I have been thinking about getting into reloading for a while. I just can't do it for a while for a few reasons. I wanted to get into reloading strictly for .223.

I carry Hornady 95gr XTP's right now. It's a decent load, but the penetration is not quite as good as I would like. Surely, this round could be pushed a little further.

I wish they made a Gold Dot in a heavier weight for 9x18 than 90gr. Maybe 100gr+

I want to test out some Silver Bear, it's supposed to be hotter, but I don't think it expands as well. Maybe I'll just go to Silver Bear, depending on how the test results turn out.

There was a thread in the ammo forum, trying to get McNett at DT to make some mak ammo. He said if there was enough interested he'd start working some loads. Maybe now that we have our own thread, let's see who's interested.

Yeah, I actually PM'ed him and this was his reply.

GL: Have you seen ANY demand?

MCNETT: A few e-mails and phone calls, but not a wave of people requesting them. I think that there are quite a few people that do carry the 9x18 for defense, though. It does give me food for thought after we launch the 9x19 loads.

Let's hope for his 9x18 load!

I'd be happy with just having some selection locally. I haven't done a lot of digging yet, but my normal ammo sources don't carry 9x18. I will likely just stick to ordering by the case over the 'net. I'd try out some DT if it existed

More choices is always nice, but there are a good number of choices in this caliber.

I use FMJ anyway.

This is a good idea, ar15.com does this with .223/5.56 ammo, it is very helpful.

Yes, I'd like to see Hornady and Speer make 110 and 115 grain JHP .364 bullets for reloading.

That would be great. Then you can really push them closer to 9X19 loads...

It makes one consider how large the Makarov market is in the USA. I don't know the answer.

Catbird and I have made some respectable loads using the available Hornady XTP and Speer Gold Dot 90+ grain bullets.

When I have time I'm going to pull some Silver Bear 115 and 120gr HP bullets and see what can be done.

I wish I could get a 23-25 pound recoil spring for these heavy loads, but 21 is the top.
I talked to Wolf and they said they tried to make a 23 but the wire diameter prevented the slide from coming all the way back.

Hi M2. I'm glad you're still planning on doing this. Please don't forget to LMK how things turn out. ;)

This is true. M2 could make a small fortune on us Makarov fans!

I'd like to see WWB Value pack loads for the 9x18 but I don't see that happening in this lifetime!

I just ordered some of Georgia Arms 95 gr. Gold Dots to try them out. I have seen many ask about them, but never any reports on how well they perform. I suspect that they will not have enough nut behind them to give good penetration and expansion. I am going to test them side by side with Barnaul FMJ into some water jugs for a cheap and dirty comparison. At this point my belief is that FMJ is the best way to go with 9X18 to get penetration, especially in the cooler months. This will be interesting.

I also ordered some Gold Dots in 357 Sig 125 gr. and .45 acp 230 gr. +P. I am sure they will perform well in those calibers.

I actually just sent a few of those Georgia arms Gold Dots off to someone on the Makarov forum to chrono them for me. Then I'll decide to change to those, or keep with the Hornady's.

GA claims 1000 fps. It will be interesting to see what they clock in at.

My only experience with this company is with their FMJ CANNED HEAT ammunition in 357SIG; it's packaged loose in metal ammo cans. It's priced much better than their JHP defensive ammo and is great for plinking and general target shooting.

If G-A would produce their FMJ CANNED HEAT in 9x18, I'd buy it without reservation.

My favorite defense round is the Hornady, I have not found anything as accurate and smooth shooting as this stuff and smooth shooting. Might try some of that GA stuff though.
