Hearing protection

What do ya'll think of these? They are really cheap and work great in the shop but I wonder how well they will work at the range? Anybody have experience with these?

A few? How about $150.00 extra. Do you have any experience with the cheaper ones?

I borroed a pair from a shooter the other day that he got from Harbor Frieght for about 25.00. They worked just fine both in hearing range commands and blocking noise.

I bought my ProEars Magnums for $150. Shop around.

I'm sure their great, however my question remains does anybody have experience with the Peltors? They are still $100.00 cheaper than the cheapest pro ears that I could find. From just toying around in the shop doing stuff like clapping and snapping next to them they seem to work very well.

A friend of mine owned the Peltors and was less than pleased, that's why I recommended the ProEars.

I have a pair of the Pelto 6-Ts that I use for the range as well as USPSA. They work fine for me.

I agree 100% that the Pro-Ears are the way to go and I don't think bargain shopping for something as important as hearing protection makes much sense.

The idea behind the electronic muffs is to be able to hear range commands. The so called 'bargain' muffs offer the same amount of db protection. If you want the best to protect hearing, go back to ear plugs, they reduce noise at twice the db rating and cost pennies per use, literally.

What is the db reduction of the pro-ears?

I just bought a few plastic reusable plugs at CVS for $3 each that have a reduction of 29db. Also bought a pack of 40 pair of the foam ones that reduce 31db, but foam are too hard to use.

I use plugs and electronic muffs, especially on indoor ranges. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to hear range commands nearly as well or would really get an earful with the 357sig next to you. Outside most any electronic muff will do if you double up. I would get a cheap pair and couple them with plugs. If they don't do the job for you get a fancier pair, then you have an extra set of muffs for when you teach people to shoot.

The advantage to the more expensive electronic muffs is that you can hear what other people are saying while others are shooting - the cheaper one's just cut out whenever there is a semi-loud noise.

I purchased pro ears after trying out both pro-ears and the tactical-7's two weeks ago.. the pro-ears sounded much better and were able to hear conversation while shooting.. far more natural and comfortable.

The person I borrowed both sets from ... returned the peltors the same week he purchased them... and stayed with the more expensive brand.. Plus the pro-ears have a five year warranty..
