What sights do you prefer for GSSF and other comp. shooting. I don't like my factory sights on my G17 and don't know if I really need night sights as this is just a comp. gun for me.

I don't like my factory sights on my G17 and don't know if I really need night sights as this is just a comp. gun for me. frankt 06-26-2005, 21:54 I have "Classic Old Man eye" syndrome which means I ain't as young as I once was and I can't see the sights very well anymore. I widened the rear sight out almost to the white outlines. This gives me a better sight picture. I first painted the front white dot with a hot pink Hi-liter and it worked pretty good. I switched the front sight to a Fiber optic from Dawson Precision and this is working well for me right now. I shot the IDPA 90 round Classifier match this morning and did pretty good. I also shoot an indoor match every week and the best for me would be if I could get only the Truglo front sight that has both fiber optic and tritium night sight ring. It would work indoors and also outdoors. You really have to find what works best for you and what you like. For instance, I don't like three dot sights and that is what many night sights have but they may be exactly what works for you. Good Luck! Custom Glock Racing 06-26-2005, 23:42 If its just for comp then tritium is kind of a waste. If you like adj Bomar are Dawson are great. If you like fixed then Heinies are best. sgtb 06-27-2005, 07:24 What is the difference between Heinies straight eight and slant pro sights? Custom Glock Racing 06-27-2005, 13:22 Old styles Heinies has a slight rearward cant, Slantpros have a slight forward cant. Straight Eights just means tritium. HAMMERHEAD 06-27-2005, 20:30 Heinies are great for speed and precision. I like the plain slantpro's and I paint a small white bar on the front sight with gesso (artist white primer) and one under the notch on the rear. CGR has 'em and give good, fast service. Dino Rustler 06-27-2005, 22:06 Check out the sights at Custom Glock Racing. I have the Bomars on my G17. Really great sights but large. I have the straight 8 on my G17L. Both are the race cut which is the only way to go. If you are older (over 45+) I have found a fiber optic front sight really helps! Speedrock 06-28-2005, 16:33 Tried most of the stiff out there and went back to straigt Black-On-Black Bo-Mars. All Heinie's really are, is a copy of Bo-Mars sight pic but non-adj. with p!$$-poor serrations. They don't work worth squat unless use sight-black. Only negative with Bo-Mars is an overly tall front sight that may drag on some holsters. Have found Heinie's .250 front will sometimes work with the rear cranked all the way down. Will need to use sight-black on the front {good idea anyway} or get one made up by EGW with nice fine 50 LPI serrations. Fiber optics are OK for hosing close targets but loose precision for the long shots if that's your game? Dawson seems to be the best F/O as their fronts don't "Halo" in bright sun. Apps4Me 07-04-2005, 06:14 Hi-Viz front, Novak black rear.... love the combo Shown on a G17, target at about 8 yards http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v671/Apps4Me/sightpicture2.jpg MarkP 07-05-2005, 11:16 Originally posted by sgtb What sights do you prefer for GSSF and other comp. shooting. Don't know ( or care ) if they are legal for GSSF , but I have the Dawson front optic and Heinie rear sight form CGR on both a G22 and G35 - for daylight use , they can't be beat imo. fwiw, MP Nick Weidhaas 07-05-2005, 14:45 Another vote for the Heinie Slant Pro rear and Dawson Fiber Optic front. Tried about every combination and like this one the best. The fo is great for fast shooting and still gives precision for further targets. Just shot groups Sunday at 35 yards with a friend with matching Glock 35's. We both are good shooters. Both guns had Heinie Slant Pro rears. One had plain black .100 wide front and the other had Dawson .110 fo. We both shot better groups with the fo front and were able to pick up the sight faster. YMMV.... Nick- G24=40cal 07-24-2005, 12:16 I shoot Custom S.S. fiber Optics rear sight,Hi-Viz F.O. front sight with .90" green light pipe on my G17 for IDPA, works Super Great!!!! He emailed me and told me they were coming out and I ordered several sets. I dont know if he has anymore or not, but they are being sent out to distributors very soon and you'll have to get them from the distributors, from what Dave told me. Great sights, I highly recommend them. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
