Thirteen
Two E. German
Two or three Russian. One is a Russian 380 with a mat chrome looking finish.
The rest are Bulgarian. One with a square trigger guard. Two I haven't fired yet but will, they are unused/new.
I had fourteen but I gave one to a friend. I couldn't stand him being without one of the best pistols in the world.:)
Usually when I lose one I end up replacing it with 2 more.;f

Three.... It's kinda like eating popcorn...... ;f
Three East Germans =60,61 and 64 and 1 FEG SMC-918 (I know its not a mak but it shoots mak and is my pocket mak).:)
I only have one, I want to get some other guns, and have more of a variety than having so many of one kind. No offense to the people that do that, If I had the money, I'd be doing the same thing.

Don't you know its unlucky to have 20 of the same type;P , you need to add the Simpson-Suhl or you will certainly face the revenge of the Makarov;a .

ONE Bulgy at this time.
Am looking for more.
They had them at W. Palm Bch. gun show last mth. $149 for fair/good condition Bulgys.
Took a pass at that table.
Also saw 1 Chicom in 380. at about 95% he wanted 300. or 400. cant remember. Passed there too.
I'm not a collector so that would have been a waste for me.
Gun show this weekend in W. Palm Bch.
I will be scoping it out again.

One bulgarian is all, but I have this constant itch for another. Somebody in another post had mentioned SOG so I went to their site to see what they had... that isn't helping my itch at all. If my wife saw that I was even thinking of buying another gun right now (just picked up my springfield last week) I would probably get beaten with a broomstick or something...

My favorites are the EG and Russian milsurps. Nice finish, excellent fit and consistent performance. Nicest initial trigger-pull.
My least favorites are the IJ70's (Russian commercial). Very thin and sloppy finish.
The Chinese have a very pretty blued finish, but the metal machining underneath is really sub-par.
As to shooting performance, with a little tuning and break-in, they are all about the same.

If it came down to the EG and the Russian mil surp, which would you pick in terms of fit, finish, and performance?

It's a toss-up between the EG and Russian milsurps. It comes down to the condition of the individual pistol. I only have 2 Russian milsurps, but I must say that the deep tone of the finish is very striking.
I also have a Bulgarian that shoots just as well as the EG and Russian with a finish that is on par.
Frankly, unless you are a collector, a Bulgarian works as well as any, if you can pick up a nice one.

Wednesday I found a right nice Russian 380 in a local pawn shop.
$179 OTD.
It has a mat finished frame and a shiny slide.
It had a Pearce grip but I don't like them so I put a spare brown Russian grip on it.
I've run about 150 rounds of Russian Brown Bear JRN and a bunch of magazines of 95gr Remington JHP reloads through it.
Typical reliable Makarov but it seems to be a little above average in accuracy.
At 35 yards it did better with the reloads than the Brown Bear. I have several other brands to try yet to see what the pistol likes best.
For the heck of it I tried two magazines with a 21 pound recoil spring. No problem. I may leave it in the gun.

I think it will do pretty good with the right ammo.

Here are all my 9x18Mak chambered pistols:
1 Bulgarian commercial (this was the one that got me started)
1 Bulgarian Miltex Special Edition blued
2 Bulgarian milsurp (1 mint, 1 shooter)
3 German milsurp (1 mint, 2 shooters (1 is for sale))
1 German Simson Suhl
2 Russian milsurp (1 mint, 1 shooter)
1 Russian IJ-70 commercial
1 Chinese commercial
1 PA-63 (Hungary)
1 P-64 (Poland)
1 P-83 Special Edition commercial (Poland)
1 P-83 Military (Poland)
1 CZ-83 (Czech Republic)
I need a Russian hi-cap and a Chinese military to round out my collection.
Wow Bret! You have a P-83 - how you found it? I think that Buck would be interested in one too. It was my service pistol in Army.
I purchased both of them from DalvarUSA for about $240 each. This is expensive compared to Makarovs, so that’s why they’re hard to find in the US. I think DalvarUSA is out of business now. My Special Eagle Edition P-83 looks just like this:

My military model looks just like this:
http://hem.passagen.se/dadkri/Pictures/P-83_1.gif
From what I know, the military version is rarer in the US.

Total Currently in personal inventory = 0
Owned a PA63 in 9x18 but sold it for practical reasons. I can see owning another in the future (either the PA63 or a Mak) - probably in .380 though.
I see no need for a backup for my Bulgy, it works fine. I stumbled upon this unissued one at a gunshow at a decent price. My next handgun will probably be a CZ, maybe a Sig but if I stumbled on another deal on a Mak I'd probably go for it just in case someone I like needs one.

I have 3 Bulgarian Makarov's, and 30 extra 8 rd mags.
Had two KBIs (Rooskie) back in the mid 90s. Great pistols. Very accurate and never jammed. Forgot why I got rid of them. Maks are amazing deals for the money.
Reading these posts brings back alot of fond memories. May have to invest in another one someday soon.
