When I phoned makarov.com today, I know that they had six Bulgarian 8-rounders. I bought two of them (in addition to a few other odds and ends). They were $10 each. FWIW, shipping charges for my complete order was only $3.85. :)

Just got my Bulgie Mak which came with 2 8 rounders. Spent almost an hour cleaning all the greasy crap off it with Gun Scrubber / Hoppes #9 and lots of effort.

But polished it up, oiled it and daubed some bright yelloe Testors model paint on the front sight and figured I was good to go.

I'm impressed with it though - simple, made of all steel and compact. Its just these "open-sided" mags it came with are kinda lame looking. I'm wondering how good they are. Thye looked like a jam waiting to happen.

Are all the mags like this or do they make solid one-piece jobs?

The mags, like the gun are tough and trouble free.

That said, I have run across two cracked ones of probably more than forty that I've had.
And I had a used one that had the feed lips too wide, no telling who did that.
And I received another that someone had bent, they had to work at that.

Watch that tang on the follower. If the follower is allowed to spring up that tang can give you a bad cut. Don't ask.;Q

Thanks Teakwood, I had tried to find them online, and the only local gunshop that had them was selling them for $21 apiece. I bought 3 online for $32 +shipping.

I've dropped them at the range before into the sand. They were REALLY crunching when loading but they never even slowed down.

They were selling for $9.00 at the gun show in NVa. last week. If you got a show in your area anytime soon, might be worth checking out.

Edited to add. I remembered that my wife got a card from the place that had them. It's GHB Enterprises P.O. 80 Waterville, OH 43566. I don't know if they're one of the one's listed above or not.

Teak - excellent info. I just purchased my FIRST Mak (not my last). It's a Baikal .380 and I'll be taking delivery in 2 weeks. So, I got the grips and a mag from Buymilsurp.com - good prices.

Pics and range report to follow.

Thanks,

You should have grabbed all the Russian/Bulgies he had. There are a better find thn the EGs.

I ordered 10 mags through Top Gun Supply at $7 each, and their shipping is very reasonable, none of that $10 shipping when it costs them $2. I think shipping is a flat $4.95. Not a bad deal. I also picked up a set of Tom's grips for the Mak, and a holster from them for my G23, too. They have a class act running over there, and some of the best customer service I've ever seen.

I needed the EG for in my pocket. The fold of steel at the bottom keeps the sharp mag. follower gizmo from ripping my clothes and in the future ,my extra mag pouch.tom.
