I finally bought a Makarov.

I had looked at a Ruskie yesterday,it had adj sights but was rougher,had rust spots on the slide and a worn but OK bore.They wanted $139 but no extra mag and the gunsmith was acting like a dick (wouldn't let me field strip it before buying) so I passed on the deal.
Went out today and found this like new Bulgy...it was a little more money,but much nicer condition,had extra grips,mag and the other stuff they should have-and looks a bit morte nicely made,so I bought this one.
I'll try to get out with it tommorrow,have some Silver Bear 115gr stuff to burn thru it.

I'd say you did alright.
An IJ70 in less than sterling condition is just another used Mak.

That Bulgie looks pretty nice. Be sure to clean it thorughly, including the firing pin and extractor channels. Remember that it is a milsurp pistol.

Actually, cleaning the extractor channel is not for the faint hearted. Maybe to start out just be sure you clean the firing pin channel.

Don't let anyone fool you, bugies are just fine. The other rarer ones are just that, rarer. They were all built by a communist government so no matter what country it came from it was built by people who really didn't give a damn since they weren't going to see any more money for a job well done.

The design makes them what they are. Just like any other great russian firearm, they are built like a tank and just work.

The only thing I don't like about maks (and I am sure there is a long line of people with the same complaint) is the sights. They are accurate, but they are just wayyyy too small. But, in a real firefight, you won't be focusing on the sights (yes, even with training. Delta force doesn't even train with using the sights on handguns for just this reason).

All I want to do with mine is round off the edges of the sights so they don't snag, that front one has a real bad habit of that.

I didn't believe all te hype until I got one. Now I have an urge to get one for evey member of my family. Who needs a high point when the fine weapons are so damn cheap?

I did notice from the photo that your Mak appears to be one of the more rare and desireable "extra cripsy" models that were produced in very small numbers. ;)

the only popeyes in my town is in an area where I would be under gunned with anything less than my P226, G21, AND my 870.
