Well, as I'm sending my bolt carrier group off to Armalite for repair after I dropped it and bent my gas key, I've decided to request that they send some goodies back with it as well :-).
This may include a carbine collapsible stock, if it's something I can easily install myself. Currently have an A2 stock. How easy is this to do? Any special considerations for an AR-10?

the only prob i had was the wrench, odd two hole nut.the wrench costs half as much as the damn stock .i did buy it though because i dont like going back to the gun shop for them to take apart my gun.

demusn, so you're saying that this wrench won't work?

While not as nice as the ones you pictured, it got the job done on my VLTOR's buffer tube and only cost about $3.
Tederiffic, you'd have to get a new buffer tube as well as the collapsible stock (although they usually come bundled together). Also, I believe the AR-10 uses a longer buffer tube so Armalite would have to offer a AR-10 length collapsible buffer tube for this to work for you.
If they don't, VLTOR is an option. They sell a AR-10 length buffer tube for ~$45. Then you could get either a VLTOR collapsible stock for $100, or any other stock that fits on a mil-spec tube (make sure you confirm this because some stocks like the RRA use a slightly fatter tube).
Personally, I'd stick with the fixed stock on your AR-10 and get an AR-15 if you want a M4-gery. But that's just my 2 cents.

Thanks Creeper; after posting initially I came to the same conclusion and have decided to leave the A2 on.
One question though, I had already taken the buttstock screw out. It was a mother to get loosened up, and looks like they put red loctite on it at the factory. Should I put another drop on before reinstalling?

You might want to throw some loctite on there. I would just use blue.
