What have you done to fix or better your Makarov sights? I'm considering something less than having the slide milled for new sights.

I took some morphine (kidding!) and ponied up for the dovetail cut in front, and an XS tritium sight. Then I opened up the notch on the rear sight, to make it quick if no longer as precise. A good 'smith could build up some metal on that existing front sight instead I reckon, but you'd still have the rear sight to deal with.

Brian,
Are you satisfied with the front sight change? Do you have pictures? Maybe that's the way to go.

No pictures. A friendly local 'smith/tinkerer/machinist cut the dovetail, and pushed in the XS (non Big Dot) sight. Can't remember which gun this sight was made for, will post this info if/when I find the package it came in.
You may want to talk to the fellow at makarov.com. He no longer does sight work, but is a good source of info for these guns.

I put a dab of white paint on the front sight.
It's funny. My Mak has the worst sights of all my pistols, but I shoot the best groups with it. Says a lot for the gun I guess.

I cut down the too high rear sight and deepened the notch on the Bulgarian Maks.
I also widened the notch on a couple but I don't like it as well as the narrow notch.
I put small white dots on the front and rear sights of 6 or 7 Maks. That works good. One day I'll do the rest.
Personally I don't have a problem with the Mak sights, except the too high rear sight.
I've toyed w/having tritium sights installed but ended up putting a dab of Testor's Orange enamel on the front sight only. Works for me...

A couple of weeks ago I put 50 rounds through two of my EG Maks. I wanted to see if my eyes prefered plain Novak or A/O sights. I used FEG ammo and as I expected experienced no jams. All rounds ejected cleanly and both pistols group well. I am near-sighted and wear bifocals but my eyes clearly prefer the plain Novak sights. It is just easier for me to see the Novaks and therefore I shoot better with them. Regards, Richard ;f

Since the Makarov.com Custom Shop closed down, who is installing Novaks on Maks? Any suggestions?

Haven't been over to the site lately, when did it close down? Why?

The site is up. I think Mossyrock is referring to the custom shop only.
Can't your LGS put sights on it for you.

My LGS might be able to do it, but I'd rather use the guys who are noted to service Makarovs.

Libertas, Marianne Carniak of the Accurizer Gunshop in Troy, MI did the sights on my Maks(3). Her work is excellent, she was taught gunsmithing by her father, Russ Carniak. To reach Marianne call 248-528-1552. Regards, Richard :D

Local gunsmith around here mills a dovetail on the front & widens the dovetail on the rear to fit Kimber stock sights (non-tritium) for, I think, $70-80 sights included. I'm considering it for my more beatup Bulgie Mak. Not really beat up, but the finish is worn. My more pristine Bulgie is going to stay stock. This 'smith has a whole range of things to do on Maks (has a package that can run up to $300 - I'm not that crazy, but he has had several get the complete package).
