I've got a new found interest in these neat little things.

Does anyone have Gen 1 units from different makers, or has anyone tried several and compared them.

It seems like there are a lot of companies Night Detective, Night Owl, Yukon, Bushnell, ATN, Lomo, and Tasco are some I have seen. Harbor Freight, home of everything Chinese even sells one. Most of these sem to be Russian made.

Any experiences? I know Gen 2 and 3 are a lot better, but much more expensive. Is this stuff even worth it at all?

I personally have a 1st gen 5x monocular, pretty fun.

From what I've read, 1st gen likes to "brighten" the surrounding light. 2nd and 3rd actually makes everything brighter with increased range.
