I've heard all the stories about Para Ord's guns. how they are not worth the price for the quality you get. Main thing I've heard against them is they jam badly. I was wondering Is the problem in the gun itself or in the factory mags??? If so, is there a better brand of after market mags for them that will solve the problem? The reason I ask, is I like the Idea of a Double Stack DA 1911. Specificly I like their 12.45 Compact LDA, teh Tac- Four model, and the 14.45 LDA. I may or may not ever get one, but if it's as simple a fix as new aftermarket mags, then I may consider it.
Appreciate the input.

I did some research and decided I was going to purchase a tac-four a few months ago. When I ordered the gun, I also ordered the +10% springs from wolff for the mags, the skateboard tape for the front strap, and the tru-glo glow-in-the-dark paint to fill in the sights.
The gun came in, the aftermarket stuff went on, and the gun performed flawlessly for 200 rounds. Then I decided that the double stack grip was a bit more than my hand size could handle. So, the gun got cleaned up and put in the safe. Now I'm thinking I should sell it to finance another single stack, the SSP LDA, really sweet!
Point is, if you've got the time and opportunity, and if you've got a bud or a range with it in stock, try to shoot a few hundred rounds through the model your interested in. It may help you out, then you'll have the ideal situation, you'll know what you want.
Just my spare change.

Appreciate the help. So I assume the mags are as easy to take apart as my SKS detachable 30 rounders or my Ruger P90 and P85MKII mags then? That's a good thing. As for renting, the place I go shooting isn't a range really; it's set up as a hunting lease. And the only person I know who's had Para Ords has probably sold his by now, because he didn't like them, because of the feeding problems. I don't think the double stack grip will be a problem. Even though I've got kinda small hands, My dad's Llama IX-D is one of my favorite pistols. I like the Look of that Tac-four a lot. With the bobed grip safety. I really like that Subcompact 12.45 LDA too. They'd both be great Hi-cap CCW pistols. I'll probably get one of those Tac fours first. I like the full sized ones too. But I'm gonna concentrate on CCW pistols first. I love my Ruger P90, but I'm a 1911 man first of all, and The Ruger is only a single stack. How light and smooth are the triggers on that thing anyway? Will they fire without the Mag in it? Anything else I might want or need to know about it?? What ammo did yours like best? What kind of groups did ya get from it?
A lot of ?'s I know, but after your post I REALLY want one now.;f (See what you did?;) )
Thanks again.

My SSP works like a charm, don't know about any other models.

The trigger breaks around 3 lbs, very very smoothly. It has a very short reset. Personal best groups WITH a rest at 25 yards was a little under 2 inches. Without the rest I was still able to keep them all under 4.5 inches. I'm not the best shot mind you, but I know the accuracy was more the gun's doing than my own. I've fed it everything from WWB 230gr ball ammo to WWB 185gr flat nosed ammo at the range, I don't use Wolf so I wouldn't know how that handles. Carry rounds are either Corbon Powerball 165gr or DPX 185gr. Like I said, it's a great gun. I know a lot of people have had issues here and there, maybe I'm fortunate to have a winner, either way no complaints. Except for the grip size that is. If you're interested, you might want to check out my WTS post in the want ads.

I have two Para's. My Carry 12 LDA was bought NIB and two of the three 12 round mags would not lock the slide. I ordered and installed Wolff springs before I even shot the gun. Since then I've had no problems. Changing the springs was easy and there are instructions in the manual. Getting parts for the Carry 12 can be a problem. It's an Officers Model size but takes different grips. Even the grip screws are a different thread size.
Although the Carry 12 felt good and shot very well, the weight of the gun made it a little too heavy for CCW. I found a used C6.45 at a good price, changed springs (which I do with all used autos) and took it out and shot it. It shoots very well and carries easier than the Carry 12. The C6.45 has the same parts problme as the Carry 12.

Do any of you know whether or not the Double stack Para Ords will take Crimson Trace Lasergrips? Particularly the Tac Four model? They have a set (LG-201 I think.) that is two seprate panels, not like the wraparound ones. Anyone know if those will work on the Tac Four?

Good question. Last I knew they didn't have anything available for the Tac-4/P13 size Para. I thought they had something for the P14 size, but it's been awhile since I've been to their site.

I have a P-10 just bought LNIB and fired first time today Had failed to eject 3 times out of 50 rounds I belive this was due to old Wolf ammo, not pistol. Rounds were stuck in chamber had to pop out with fingernail. Will be picking up some better ammo and trying again. This pistol is tighter than any Auto Ive ever owned
I have two Para's, a pxt14.45 single action and a tac 4lda. Both are double stack mags and both have run perfectly out of the box. The only trouble I have had was when using Wolf ammo. Several round nosedives in the mag. Using quality brass cased ammo such as CCI, Winchester, Remington ect I have never had a failure.
I personally would be leary of Para's ultra compacts, ie the P10 and the Warthog. A buddy of mine had a P10 that would jam once a magazine and there are a lot of bad reports on the Warthog.
