I swaped out the mainspring housing with a good steel arched GI one and added some killer old-school grips that were carried on a duty 1911 in Viet Nam by the guy down the alley. I now know 1911 perfection
FWIW -- I'm just about to see the bottom of the ammo can after my 3rd trouble-free 500 round lot of the new Wolf poly coated .45ACP since NIB. Flawless and this pistol does not know any other .45 exists. @ $62.00/500 it's like shooting 9mm!!

You mean underpowered and unsatisfying?
I kid, I kid.
The gun looks good, although I'm not sure I share your enthusiasm for the Viet Nam era grips. Seems like if I were going to have a part of my gun looking worn and used, I'd like it to be from my own hand and my own usage.
To each his own, it's still a great looking pistol. Enjoy!

What plastic? Smith uses an aliminum checkered mainspring housing ion the 1911s.

really?? mine felt pretty plastic-y...........I'll check it out
Either way I wanted the arch.
I looked at a couple of S&W 1911's the other day and they had far better triggers, I mean FAR better, than the Kimbers next to them for much more money.

That's an interesting swing because the last I checked the three new 1911Sc that I handled had 6-7 pound triggers. Otherwise I really like the Sc so it sounds like time to check them out again.

I for one like the grips, as long as that damage is actual "served in 'Nam damage" and not "my wife used it as a hammer to hang a picture" damage.
:) ;?
Tell your pal down the Alley thanks for his service.
I'm not sure about the trigger pull weight, but they had less takeup, a cleaner break, and no over travel. That's more important to me than the actual weight.
