Thanks for answering my post; a couple of questions if you don't mind about cutting down a P9 to Covert dimensions:
1. Would the two mags that came with the P9 still be useable?
2. If you were doing it, what would you use to cut it--I know that being only plastic it will cut easily, but I was referring to straightness, accuracy, etc.
3. Does the magazine clip into something at the bottom of the butt or the top?
4. How precise do you think my measurement of the exact cutting point should be? Will the mags still work if I'm off 1/16" or so from true Covert dimensions?
5. And last, how much do you think the Comrades at the Kalifornia Dept. of Injustice would frown on this kind of modification? I plan to get my CCW, so I'll be taking qualification courses, tests, etc., probably from a bunch of LE guys who will see my gun.
Thanks again for your help.

Yes, but they would protrude from the bottom of course.

I'd personally start with a hacksaw, fine tune it some with a belt sander if needed, then go to hand files/sand paper & finish it up with Dremel tool/felt wheel/polishing compound. ^c

Nope, at at all... ALL polymer 9mm Kahr's have their mag catches located in the same place; behind the trigger guard where it meets the frame.

I'd get it as close as possible... why not?

It would still work fine although it may not look too nice &/or not be as comfortable to grip.

KKKalifornia is a pretty messed up place, but if the P9 Covert is CA "approved" then you'll have no problem.

With a slide that says P9, and a serial number logged as a P9, I can't imagine they'd have a leg to stand on if they got their panties in a twist.
Looking at the mag, you'll see it has a notch about a third of the way from the top. Thats where the mag catch slips in, and holds the mag in the gun. Chopping the grip down, you won't come anywhere near that point.
Since the correct grip length completely hinges on the 6 round, flush fit mag, first get yourself one of those mags. Then start taking away an 1/8th of an inch at a time until the 6 round mag locks in without trouble, and the floor plate is just barely longer than the grip.
Clean it up with high grit sandpaper and a polishing wheel.
If you actually get into this project, let me know and I'll take some closeup detail pics of what my factory finished grip looks like.
I had another thought too. Are you sure you can't get a covert model? Its not marked as anything other than a P9.

Did this project ever happen?
