View Full Version : German maks
SOG newest catalog says they have a few in stock
$300.00
I got mine years ago at under $200.00. Love it
I've heard the EG Maks are the best.
FWIW, the EG Maks are not on the SOG website.

They are:)
I just got my catalog also. Is this considered a good deal for them??
300 wow there worth it but where did that come from?
I was at the gun show in Berea, OH, today, and a guy had an East German Makarov for sale for $385. It had one or two magazines. To me, it looked like it was on very good condition. I didn't see any signifcant wear on the exterior. I didn't think to make a note of the serial number to date it. I might have been able to work his price down to $350.
Can anyone give me the going rate on these? I have two Bulgarian Makarov's already, and they are shooters. This one was pretty, but I know it wouldn't stay that way if I start blasting the crap out of it. Seem's silly to spend $350 on a 9x18 when I can get a CZ75 9x19 in the same condition for the same price.
TIA, jmm

If it seems "silly to spend $350 on a 9x18 when I can get a CZ75 9x19 in the same condition for the same price" then buy the CZ. The CZs are excellent pistols. The EG Mak is only worth what you are willing to pay for it.
BTW, SOG has CZ83's for $285.
never shot an EG, but I couldn't imagine it being over twice as good as my $130 bulgie. I would spend that money on 2 bulgies before I bought one EG at that price.
The russian my shop had for $200 was tempting me however.

This topic is covered in: http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=398437. I do not see the amount of difference that commands the EG Mak price. I own three EG and one Bulgie and I like the Bulgie just as well. Regards, Richard ;f

Me, too.

Yes, me to, I'd buy a couple Bulgarians, but then I already have a couple EG Maks.
But the EG is considered to be the best and sometimes you want to own the very best available.
Nothing wrong with that.:)
I have 4 Bulgy & 2 EG Maks. Except for the finish there's no practical difference between the Bulgys and one of my EG's. However, the fit, finish & trigger on the other EG Mak are superb so this is my CCW/nightstand gun. If all you want is an accurate & reliable shooter then by all means go for the Bulgy.

It's almost a shame that some German company doesn't start manufactuing the Makarov commercially again. I know that they'd cost 3X their communist counterparts but man what a market they'd have! Imagine a brand new, German made hicap Makarov with Trijicons, long slide, etc etc... ;)

They wouldn't sell at the price they would have to ask.

I'm sure many of us would buy one, I know I would, but there probably wouldn't be enough sold to make the project a commercial success.
2 things I'd like to see is Crimson Trace make a laser grip and some company make a 22LR conversion for the Makarov.
I'd sure as heck buy one!
If it was new production and chambered for .380, and same steel construction, I'd pay up to $400 for one. It would have to be the same design, though. I can't imagine it would be *that* expensive ot manufacture.

I'm in the process of buying an EG now. I just gotta have one to help round the collection.
I certainly respect the opinions of those who feel that paying substantially more for an EG Mak is money well-spent. For me, I think I'd rather spend the extra money and have a Bulgie hardchromed in a nice brushed finish by a quality shop such as Tripp Research. (In fact, I may just do that.)

Really?
Would you pay $400 for one of my EGs with a .380 barrel thrown in?

Perhaps I should have been more specific. I would, if you were a manufacturer with an US presence, that will provide me with a warranty and a full set of accessories (hi-cap mags, adjustable/fixed sight replacements, etc) for your line, along with your NIB product available at major wholesalers/dealers throughout the US. I know most of this is available as surplus items, making it less expensive and thus adding to the current Makarov's appeal.
Would a Makarov of EG quality+ with the specfications above be equal to or greater than any other .380 currently manufactured, given its higher price point? Would you buy it before a Bersa/CZ/Browning/Beretta and so on?

That's one of the nice things about the Makarovs.
It's a good solid, reliable, accurate, inexpensive gun that you can dress up any way you want, without having $1,000 plus tied up an a single gun.
Some people say that it's dumb to put $200+ in a $170 gun.
No more dumb that buying a $500+ Colt 1911 and spending $600+ on it.
If the Makarov imports stop, all the Maks will become very expensive and I'd guess the price on the EG Maks will go out of sight.
