I'm thinking of getting a SA GI45. This would be my first 1911 handgun. I would like to get a pair of custom grips for it, something special, one of a kind, to make the gun MINE. Any suggestions on grip makers, not to pricey. Thanks for your help!

Firstly, I'd recommend getting the Mil-Spec version and paying just a little extra. I bought the GI and regretted not paying just a little more for the Mil-Spec. If not for the flared ejection port, then at least for the sights. The GI sights are incredibly bad.

As far as grips go, I highly recommend Alumagrips if you're not looking for wood. Very high quality and great service. Check out the website to see all the options.

I sold my Springfield GI because I didn't have the money to modify it to my liking (and you will want to modify it), but when I buy another 1911 the first thing I'll likely do is put another set of these grips on.

For G-10 material grips, http://davidsonknives.com/grips/grips.htm

For wood, www.1911pistolgrips.com

For aluminum, www.alumagrips.com

I've dealt with all 3 gripmakers & they are all superb!

John can do custom jobs - I had him put some Wilson Combat medallions in a black canvass gators. NOW, Wilson is offering the same. Oh well, great minds think alike.
