Has anyone here tried using a piece of Agrip material instead of skateboard tape on the frontstrap of a 1911? I see that Brooks Tactical sells an Agrip designed to wrap around the frontstrap and stocks of a 1911, but I'd prefer to leave my stocks bare and just use a small piece to cover the front.

Yes, I have done that and it works nicely.
Simply purchase one of their 5"x8" sheets and go from there.
It is easy enough to cut and trim a piece to fit the front strap.
Make it long enough to fit under the front of your grip panels on both side to help secure it in place. The a-grip is thin enough that it should not be a problem.
The bonus is you will have plenty left over for future use.
