I'm going to get one of the Springfield GI 5" and not crazy about the factory "U.S." wood grips.I'd like to put a set of brown plastic grips to make it look more authentic, but not having any luck with searches.Does anyone know where I can pick up a set?

Like you said, I think the plastic ones are more authentic but I personally like the look of the wooden ones.
I don't think authentic GI .45s had the "US" them.;?

The ad for SARCO in the latest shotgun news had plastic Gi grips listed. there website is www.sarcoinc.com go look there.
Guess I lucked out. My GI came with wood grips but no US on them. They are checkered all over except for the double diamonds.
Real ones for $10: http://www.simpsonltd.com/index.php?cPath=60_88
