Steyr M9 into California? Legal Questions

The M9 isn't on the AG's list of approved firearms so I can't buy one from a dealer in state. BUT what at http://justice.doj.ca.gov/safeguns/safeguns_new.taf It states "Private party transfers, curio/relic handguns, certain single-action revolvers, and pawn/consignment returns are exempt from this requirement."

So it would seem feasible that I could buy a M9 from a private party out of state as long as it didn't have the standard capacity magazines? Anyone know if this is correct?

Furthermore would that allow me to buy one from CDNN as they would only be shipping it to my FFL?
