Some people call them "clips" some call them magazines. I was taught in the Corps that they are always called magazines and that "clips" were the little brass strips that held our 5.56 rounds together so you can speed load them into 30 round magazines. However all the time I hear people refer to them as "clips". Is "clips" just the street slang term for a magazine? Which is correct?
In my mind, you are correct Sir. Magazines feed bullets into the gun and clips feed bullets into magazines. Unless you are shooting a M1 or a revolver that uses moon clips!;)

The term I think became popular in gangsta rap. The "I'm gonna empty out my Clip, blip blip blip" lyrics sorta fueled it. I just wanted to make sure because everytime my buddy says clip I correct him and ask him where he found clipped ammo for a G27. I guess it does't really matter and I'm just being a smart *****.

Actually, when I first got intersted in handguns, most gun stores and even several magazines (the type you read;f ) referred to them as "clips", and that was 25 years ago, well before Gangsta rap was even a thought. No big deal to me which term is used, since I know what you mean, but a lot of people love to jump you like you're a moran for calling it a "clip". Oh well, life goes on!

Nobody has said anything about jumping on people like their morons, a little friendly banter maybe. I just think you should use nomenclatures correctly, thats all.

FWIW calveryc, I wasn't referring to anything in this post with my "jumped like a moron" comment but rather I've seen some people get "mauled" pretty bad in the past over this matter. Friendly banter is the spice of life!
BTW, I guess if I can't make sure I type moron spelled correctly, I may be one, huh?;g

The beloved corp is again correct sir... They are magazines
Clips feed ammo into magazines...
People are ignorant of correct terms.. people don't understand that semi-auto is not a machine gun.... they don't understand that a 45 will not knock a man down or rip both his arms offf.... they don't understand that magazines hold ammo and attach to pistols and rifles...
I think we should use correct terms to show that we are educated in our subject matter... we have to decide what times to correct people so that we are not seen as know it all's...
When you fail to educate , you endorse the errors.. so when you see a reporter on television talking about a 45magnum / or a 12 caliber rifle or those dreaded machine gun semi's just nod and say that you are happy with the results of not correcting things.

When you ask for a box of bullets in the gun store that I frequent... you get bullets... not ammo... no primers...no powder..no cases... I prefer it that way...

In the academy anyone calling a magazine a clip got to do push ups until the Coperal deemed it was time to quit.

The cop who taught me to shoot told me that unless we were talking M1 Garands, I would owe him ten pushups if I called it a clip.

Ever wonder why Marlin always calls their magazines "Clips"? I guess they weren't ever Uncle Sam's Misguided Children...

I was talking handguns... there is a 458 winchester magnum, but not a 45 magnum that I am aware of...
As per Webster's Dictionary "2 : a device to hold cartridges for charging the magazines of some rifles; also : a magazine from which ammunition is fed into the chamber of a firearm"
The theory that this breeds firearm ignorance is too slippery-slope for me. I'll give you that a good number of gangsters use the term but I've heard knowledgable people use it too. I prefer to use the term magazine myself.

There is a 45 Winchester Magnum. Its a stretched 45 acp case. Its the same over all length of the 44 mag. Its power is also comparable to the 44 mag. The original gun it was chambered in was the LAR Grizzley a 1911 on steroids. The standard load was a 230 grain FMJ at 1500 fps or so.

A thousand words.

Theses are for my M1, and are made of steel. The hole deal feeds into the top of the gun, and the empty clip ejects with the last round.
Ditto on the 45 Win Magnum. I also think AMT made a gun chambered for it.
I don't know of any sources for stock ammunition, but I know Starline still makes brass for it.
45 Win Mag is up there with 10mm Mag(not to be confused with 10mm Auto), and the 41 AE on the dead list.
