How about some suggestions for a cleaner? Once the gun is broken down what are you using to blast away the gunk and crud before a lube job? I’m thinking some kind of a good, powerful spray cleaner to get into the heart of matters?

Spray brake cleaner works very well. Don't know if it damages polymer though.
The best cleaner I have found in MPro7. I know I ordered online in the past and am about out. So I am not sure the best source these days.
It has low odor (almost none) and seems to eat through powder residue and whatever other contaminates left behind after practice. Great stuff. FWIW, I think it is used by the military as well for firearm cleaning.
For all my Tupperware I use Simple Green to clean. Then I lube with CLP. I also clean the metal parts with CLP. It works for me. YMMV
