View Full Version : Asking Price??
I attended a gun show here in Texas yesterday hoping to sell my blued USP Compact 40. I have 3 10 rd. magazines and a Fobus paddle holster. My asking price was $500. The pistol is very clean with only slight holster wear on slide. I couldn't give the thing away. I know dealers aren't going to give you top dollar for pistols, but I was trying to sell to people just browsing the show. The dealers were selling new Compacts in the box for $689 and up. Am I way off in my asking price? Book value is $525 currenty for this pistol. Several people asked if I had the box it came in, and I do not. Does the box help the price that much?

You can buy a box on ebay for about $5... so that shouldn't be a problem.
$500 sounds fair... I just gave $599 for a NIB 9mm USPc from CDNN... they are the cheapest around.
The only drawback to your gun is the 10 round mags... 12 rounders cost about $40 each for that gun.
Gun shows are not the "best" place to sell handguns. I have done it a few times but I am always aware of the responsibility of it. That said, $500 is a reasonable price. People at gun shows often want to buy w/o the proper paperwork or just work you over on price. Have you considered a trade-in on something that you want?
RazorbackME- I hadn't thought of getting a box off of E-bay. I'll give it a try. A dealer at the show told me I could ask $525 for the pistol if I had the box for it. I couldn't help but laugh as I walked away thinking to myself, "Hell I can't get $500 for it right now without a box."
big68- I have tried trading it in. My local gun store gave me an excellent trade in value of $375 tops. I know you aren't going to come out ahead trading a used pistol for a new pistol, but to me that was a slap in the face. That is after they gave it a grade of at least 95% for it's condition. At the gun show all the dealers said they would give me $400 for it. I think I will put up some signs at our gun range and see what happens.

throw it in the classifieds here on glocktalk. 500 for a good conditioned usp will move pretty quick, especially if you sell it in state. out of state the buyer will still be paying no more than 550 after shippting and transfer fees, that's not a bad deal at all.

That kinda sucks...
I just bought my UPSc 40 stainless for 750. Guess I overpaid a bit. I was told, funny enough by the range gunsmith, when asked what I could sell it for, he kinda laughed and said you would have trouble giving it away. He said you can find them used with little wear in decent quantity.
I am not worried in that I love the pistol, but I am wondering about going to an expert or something, and I can;t justify 2 pistol right now at the house... I need an AR!.

Lol, don't worry I am more than enjoying this gun. He is actually an HK fan (Siggs first in his book) in terms of duty stock pistols. It was his recomendation I go with either sig or HK. He gave the advise bore I actually bought, of course, like with a sports car, that new shinny look and an empty credit card turned me into Mr. Impulse buyer.
Of course the more I read, the more I like my compact and seem pretty much decided on USP match or MK23.
Hi Doc, $750 is about the correct price for a stainless. HE finishes usually run new at between $675 and $725. So just shoot it and enjoy.
BTW your range gunsmith probably failed the Heckler & Koch armorer's course and is pissed because of it.;) Don't sweet it.
